Official Canon 550D User Thread Part IV

 also, if you don't want to spend so much at one go, you can postpone the 55-250 for later. the 17-50 focal range is what you'll be using most of the time.

17-50 2.8 by Tamron is light enough and nice to carry around and a good alternative to Canon 17-55 2.8, and i bought the tamron as i think paying additional 1000 bucks doesn't justify for the IS and USM

Cannot before 2011 ??

School starting leh..

I'm totally okay with weekdays after 21st but others might be working..then since all the saturdays happen to be 25 and 1st... :( you can still plan without me though :bsmilie:

you plan la this time... being the organizer is not easy ok..

Hmmm then Tamron 17-50mm will be enough for taking landscape pictures? Why do you guys not recommend Canon 17-85mm?

Hmmm okay. Are most of the pictures in your flicker taken by Tamron 17-50mm?

Alright, then what will be the different between Tamron 17-50mm and Canon 17-85mm lens? I'm still attracted by canon's longer reach, but till now nobody has answer me why that lens is not recommended.

What lens do you people usually use for events? I know usually people used flash for event photography but I am not too sure about the lens. Is Nissin 622mkII good enough for event photography?

hi guys,

thinking of getting the 550d as my first dslr,

saw this offer at sitex 2010. $1349 S18-55 Kit, top up $99 to get a 75-300mm canon lens.

what do you guys think?

intending to use for my trip to europe, food, sightseeing, landscape, people shots.

grateful for any advice offered! (hoping to keep budget within 1.5k)

Damn! I cannot join you guys cos I am selling my 550D as I just got a 60D last Thursday.

Odyssey please organise more gathering in the future after you purchased your 60D yeah!

Guys,

The new version of firmware is released :

http://web.canon.jp/imaging/eosd/firm-e/eosdigital7/firmware.html

firmware version : 1.0.9

Fixes a phenomenon in which tone jumps become noticeable in some images, depending on the shooting scene, when shooting with the Auto Lighting Optimizer settings (Low / Standard / Strong).

Anyone dare to try ? and don't forget to put your review here ;-)

Upgraded mine this morning. Just tried a few shots. The fix seems to be working as mentioned. :)

Updated the firmware on mine a few minutes ago. The process was smooth - exactly as described in the instructions.

Gonna pop down and shoot the neighbourhood cats in a few minutes. I'll report back here if I notice any difference. I'm not sure that I will cos I'd never experienced the problem of sudden change of tone in the first place.
