What's a nice zoom lens to replace the 18-135kit lens?

How do you find the weight of 15-85 to your 550D?

ahh sorry sorry havent been checking.
eh its all right, heavier definitely than the 18-55 kit and the 50 1.8 prime.
sometimes even feels like the 550d body is too small for it, like its gonna rip off the body :bsmilie:

that said, it feels great. but in a different sense from teh 50 1.8, if u get my drift.

need something longer - canon 18-200
need something better for low light - tamron 17-50, sigma 17-50, canon 17-55 f2.8
need a higher quality walk about - sigma 17-70, canon 17-85, canon 15-85, canon 24-105

i think i like zoom better but 18-200 is quite similar to 18-135 rite? How about 55-250?

55-250 is a telephoto so it starts at 55, which is not a good replacement for the 18-135 which covers wide to tele. if u need something longer, get the 18-200. it covers from wide to tele and 200mm and 135mm is some difference

I see some nice shots of yours taken on the 55-250. Will it be silly to invest in a 70-200mm f4L?

its silly to spend money unnecessarily...

why do you even think you need it in the first place.. is like having a car not enough, want a sports car.. then not enough want a jeep.. then want a convertible..

if you think that your current lens can't do what you need... for instance you can't drive ur nice toyota to go off road adventure so you need a jeep... then by all means go ahead...

if you are willing to spend that money to get a jeep that you will only use occasionally, then its whether you see it as a silly or not silly investment...

That kinda explains it but then again i actually looking for a longer range zoom. Thanx for the tips btw i dont drive :P

haha, its okei, u don't need to drive to understand the logic.. which u do~!

so if you are looking for a longer focal lenght range.... the 55-250 is a very nice lens that is value and yet suits ur requirements i guess.. the 70-200 is too tele, and too expensive.. and too large..

unless ofcos you are fine with all that..

The difference between the 70-200 is quite significant. the 70-200 f4L is sharper, has faster AF, but lacks IS. being an L lens it is also obviously more expensive. Whereas, the 55-250 is made for crop sensor cameras, thus it starts at a shorter focal length. it is not as sharp, especially at longer focal lengths and it doesnt have the fast USM motor, but it benefits from the IS.

When considering these 2 lens, u need to think whether you need the extra sharpness + faster AF for shooting eg. sports, kids at the expense of a higher cost and lack of IS (assuming u r getting the 70-200 f4L non-IS).

If u have the budget, i advice you to get the 70-200 f4L IS. combination of sharpness, fast AF + IS. you wont regret it if u r a tele shooter

Hi guys,

Can i check if anyone know how to solve the following problem.
I had been taking video with 550D, whenever during filming of video in portrait format, the replayed video will be shown in a portrait format, i mean the video content will be in a 90degree display. Is there any software or player which i can change the video replay orientation?

i'm not sure abt windows.. but on mac using imovie should be able to rotate.. but best to even avoid it.. and shoot in landscape orientation....

carried a canon 550d with canon 16-35 2.8L and my shifu's 1D4 with 100-400L to F1 2010.. white big lenses are nice and good looking but never will I to get it... seriously its so heavy, and after 3 hrs of carrying, i feel so pak chiak...
