nice photos....

Erm sorry it's typo error it's tamron 17-50mm f2.8.

To d guys who were talking abt getting lens, if u can afford go for d canon 50mm f1.4 or even better sigma 50mm f1.4. No doubt d 50mm f1.8 is usable n sharp too... Sign but many times I see ppl use it, it really make d whole system look damn cheap... Sign d plastic look of it just look too Jiak lak. Lol I shd be saving for 50mm f1.4 canon

the 50 1.4 have usm af problems due to the design.

i feel good when shooting 50 1.8, that cos i can lighten the weight of my bag and overall setup if needed.

even though the 50 1.8 is light, it has horrible AF accuracy. meanwhile, the 50 1.4 has accurate focus but lousy focus mechanism that spoils easily. then, the 50 1.2 is nearly flawless, but too expensive. Sad life for canon 50mm prime users :( i think sigma 50 1.4 still much better haha

Hi guys,

I had a question on batt grip. When most of you purchase the batt grip. Do you purchase additional LP-E8 batt(3th party) or you will just get the grip itself and choose to use 6 x AAs batteries.

Initially, I am always thinking of getting the bundle of Grip + 2 LP-E8 batt. Something struck me just now, the default charger that comes with 550D can only charge 1 batt at a time, hence it kind of defeat the purpose of getting 2 x LP-E8.

To conclude, which is better option, I am talking about better in terms of traveling in foreign land, which is hassle free and last longer.. please advise.

If it is 6x AAs, which brand of batteries shall i be getting.

why is it that bcos it looks cheap then no good meh??

cannot like that say la.. then it means if you are using a cheap lens then can't take nice photos?? i've a fren who has won competitions using 50 1.8 lor..

if photography to you is about having expensive looking gear to show for, then it will become a more expensive "hobby" to you...

don't judge equipment such as lens by cheap or expensive.. judge by its IQ and sharpnesss...

also like what OdB said... 50 1.4 has issues.. so why spend more $ just to "look" good, or "look" more pro, becos its not so 'cheap'...

ok noted. maybe this just applies to me lah. :)

its not bad, yeah but it does have some back and forth issues at times. thats the drawback as its cheaper compared to canon bah...

Ya, my frankly, I got the Sigma 30mm f1.4 and compare with 50mm f1.8.

Even after servicing my Sigma 30mm, it is still not as good as my 50mm f1.8 in term of focusing.

Haha, that what i felt too. Thru i like my 50mm f1.8, it look "cheap". It look "shiok" using long long lens :)

Is it? I m using 50mm f1.8 II and Sigma 30mm f1.4. i find the AF of canon better than Sigma one even throught I had send my Sigma for calibration.

Was considering sending it again for calibration but not sure if it really helps.

Haha well said, but will u feel inferior standing beside the long long lens heehee?

That day went to a friend's ROM, stood beside the official photographer with his super long lens, felt so small.

you will feel inferior when you start to compare... why a person using PnS doesn't feel inferior? becos they don't say wah he shooting using DSLR i only using PnS... they just carry on having fun and shooting... and looking at the funny faces on the photos and laughing..

similarly, if you don't compare equipment, but look at the pics... say wow~! thats a nice angle you got or sth... then move around and have fun shooting... does it matter whether u are using a 70-200 or a 50mm? yes it matters for the sake of the photo, but for the sake of comparing whether one is inferior i think shouldn't be the case..

if i was shooting with a 70-200 2.8 IS i would not feel superior to anyone of the seniors here using a 50mm... in fact i would be very humble and ask for their tips, or points to note while shooting...

Just get the 3rd party...even if you just manage to charge one batt the cam will still work.

If u get rechargable AAs, you will probably have a lot of AAs when you decide to get a flash in future.

That said, decision is still up to u.

Cheers!

guys, an incident happened to my 550D...

the built-in flash of my 550D was struggling to pop-up when we went to Sydney last month, the temperature there was 9deg C. i have to repeat & tap the built-in flash for it to pop-up. then it become normal again here in Singapore...

is it due to the cold temp??? hmmm...
