Thanks freelancer for clarifying...
Will read up on your links.

i think yong nuo flash also can act as optical slave

As far as I know only, for the Yongnuo range, only YN460, YN460II, YN467, YN468 and YN560 can be optical slaves. I suppose any newer model will also have optical slave capability from now on, unless it's specialised like the YN460RX.

Hi all fellow 550d user...

Do u guys usually select the focus point during shoot or use automatic?

For me, i normally select centre focus point, focus then recompose.

I read or heard from somewhere that centre focus point is the fastest to get focus. Not sure if it's true.

i got a problem...

When there is a shadow overcast on the face, i set to a point focus and shift that point to focus at the face. This help slightly but will cause the background to have a over-exposed issue. Any solution?

And if i wan to take a photo of a person and the background, if i set the focus point to the face, the background will be OOF. I know this might be the aperture setting. So what aperture setting is recommended for people and scenery photo?

Thank you.

Fastest because it is the most sensitive of all the focus points for 550D. They call it crossed type focus point. 550D has 9 Autofocus points, centre one is the very sensitive one because it is the only crossed type point, unlike xxD and xD series cameras, all focus points are cross type.

Problem with recomposing is, sometimes the face/subject will go out-of-focus if you've a very shallow depth of field. I manually use all 9 focus points, and with the help of my flash's beam, it focuses faster especially on low light. I only use the centre focus points if I'm shooting action shots, fast moving portraits of my kid. And 9 focus points of 550D also guides me to follow the rule of thirds on composing pictures =)

You must familiarize yourself on depth-of-field/aperture. Just some quick answers, and you can find this on google.

Shadows can be fixed by popping up your flash, this acts like a fill-in flash.

Here's my own way of using the aperture, and might need some improvements too, If I'm taking group photos, half-body, I usually use aperture 5.6+ - blur background and all peeps are in focus, For portraits, usually use F/4 below. This is based on your preference and shooting style.

If you want to have a very broad depth-of-field and you want your background to be as clear as possible, use apertures more than 8+, the higher the number means more things will be focused relative to your distance and focus points. But you need to compensate this with shutter speed and ISO to have a proper exposure.

Regarding the background is overly exposed, this is because the sensors on our camera is not like our eyes, that has a very high dynamic range for luminance. Read this wiki and you'll understand why. It's about HDR.

nikon announced a new cam with full autofocus during movie mode. I hope canon will also implement this on the 600D. Hoping also for the articulating LCD (same as 60D)

I just got my 550D kit II

How much u paid for your KIT II?
Where u get it from... me thinking of getting the KitII also.

I think he means that he manually selects any of the nine points when he is shooting depending on which one is needed. Technically, it is not possible to use all 9 points at once

Hi.

$1429 via PPP (whats PPP)

Not sure what it stands for..

Cheers.

How you get Privilege Purchase Program???

Ok got it. Wonder how much it will trade in for an old Film Canon camera EOS 500 (not D)
Still working one.

No offence intended, but can you please ask that question under the PPP thread? Or better still, read the thread first because your question is probably answered there already. :)
