You can use wireless flash trigger PT04III control up to 4 channels, one transmitter and two receivers (for two flashs) cost you only S$70 and you can find them in CS mass sales:)

Hello everyone,

1) giotto blower and lenspen
2) screen protector
3) UV filter
4) batt grip + additional batt
5) Sirui tripod
6) flash light either 580exII or 420exII (i am new to flash)

Hi Brown,

For the blower get the AF swiss blower. The tip is metal and short. Unlike normal hurricane blower they are a pain to keep in bag and when you pump, the long plastic tube moves and can't really direct your air correctly.

For UV filter, I usually try to get the best for my lens. Nevertheless a gd piece of protection filter is like 100+ and if it costs like more than 20% of your lens, then I don't bother getting 1. A cheap piece of filter just make the lens worst which if you are not getting a very sharp lens to start with, it just make it worst.

Sirui tripod is value for money. Get the N series if you can. They have enough accessories to start you off like an in-built monopod, plate, ground level centre column, tripod bag etc.

For flash if you don't need the top of the line, either 430 or the older 580 is better. If you intend to grow your system, then get the latest make.

If you don't need wireless, just get the off camera shoe cord. Cheong or original seems to work fine but my experience with Canon stuffs is better to use their original else you may have a problem with compatibility with your future purchases.

If you want wireless, the cheapest way of course would be to get 2 flashes. Use 1 to master the other to slave and let them have point of contact so that their IF can wk. If you shoot portraitures and need distance then get the pocket wizard. They are great investment that can be used even for future as you upgrade and improves in your photography.

Yes indeed. This battery thing have bugged a lot of photogs for many years. The old cheong type used to give user a lot of issues and some void the warranty issues of the body when things happen.

2 things to consider if you intend to buy cheong 1....what warranty the batt cover. Some seller will tell you they come with 1 yr warranty while canon original don't. Nevertheless, Batt pai can change a new 1 but if batt pai and spoil your body then a bit bo hua. 2nd consideration is can your original batt charger charge the cheong 1 correctly?

Chargers and battery are getting smarter nowadays and they can condition and register the battery. My original ones can be registered under my body to tell me when is this battery installed for use and the remaining shots etc. So unless you get a good cheong 1 which won't be the very bottom price also so try to scout around.

My friend bought 1 cheong 1 from CP $28, original is $90 IIRC. I told my friend to ask the 2 questions to the sales lady and she told my friend you don't use the cheong 1 as the main battery all the time. Use it as a backup for emergency usage. Once your main 1 is down you should get another original 1 to replace as a main battery source. The cheong 1 will always remains as the backup.

Hope that helps.

Bro, if you care about weight, get the T1204, which is much lighter. I got myself a T2204 cos I don't mind the additional add on weight, and in fact the legs are thicker which is more stable. The value added features for the T2204 is that it has retractable spikes at the bottom of the legs whilst the T1204 doesn't.

Do consider on your purchase, whether you want light or stable.

The Canon flash is definite better in terms of it's sync and ttl, but still, it's Di622 still can't take on the 430ex. Partly it's the sync, ttl, and the LCD screen. Sad to say, I'm using a Di622, cos I don't use flash often, except for events etc. And it's much more cheaper.

One main problem is that the Di622 doesn't have it's firmware that can support wireless off camera flash triggers. So, I might be getting an additional Di866 flash which is $370, last checked at Alan Photo.

Hello Odyssey bro,
I was at TK foto yesterday to try out the T1204 and T2204. The weight is not too much of a different. BUt after consideration what you had mention. I think stability is a priority. The retractable spike base is a nice to have add on for outdoor shoot.
Will be going down again to try out with camera.

As regard to flash unit, i had check with SLR revo that they are selling 430exII at ard $460+. Can i check how much did you pay for Di622?

Hello Malsam,

Any idea how much is the AF swiss blower and where can i get it?
Tentatively i am using a rocket blower. Which i feel the air pump itself is not concentrate.
In the mean time i am wondering if a lens pen will be require. As i am using clothes and solution.

Think i will be more interested with the 430exII as i dont really need the range and power of 580exII. The saleman was recommending 430exII for a start up.
I am looking into canon and nissin flash.

For filter wise, i have just got a 67mm Hoya HMC UV filter for my kit lens. Will be getting a ND and CPL too.

hi guys.. i juz realise something.. when i go out for a shoot with my friends, nikon got a hotshoe protector.. some plastic that protect the connections when not in use.. but canon doesnt comes with it.

ist safe not to have one?

Wow ! 430exII at $400++ ? Then might as well get the Nissin Di866, $370 at Alan Photo. Heard from the reviews that it's much stronger than the 580exII, cheaper. Just that it doesn't support off camera flash TTL. Only for the 580exII.

I bought my Di622 at $195 at Alan Photo including GST.

580EXII has better built, better mount feet, 50+ points AF assist focus light.
These were missing from Nissin Di866. But for the price, I will pick Di866 then 430EXII.

@Bokukko
As for batteries, even the new LP-E8 battery is assembled in China. I am using 3rd party battery as backup, so far so good. Blame canon for placing the original batteries so expensive. lolx

So far cheapest Original LP-E8 I can find is $70 at Click!, Tampines 1

Hey guys, is it possible to enlighten me what is TTL as mention on 580exII. I am not aware of why is nissin better then canon 430exII

TTL=Through the lens...

Thanks! Wow calibration cost $80? How long it takes? Must bring camera along?

What I understand is must bring along camera. S$80 but take a while (maybe few hours).

I actually found a place selling imported copy about S$535. Was thinking of getting initially but calibration S$80 and 1 yr warranty (instead of 2.5yr).

Then did some calculation. $535 + $80 (calibration) = $615, then SLRR selling ard S$715. So we are basically paying S$100 for the 1.5yrs extra warranty. Seems reasonable.

Code:
Do we have to make booking or appointment first? Or chance it and walk right in to see if they can do it on the spot?

The reply given to me was you need appointment.

no sigma gives approx 30 months warranty for their lens, 1 year + 1 year + 6 months, iirc.

That is for local set distributed by Sigma Singapore. Imported set 1 yr warranty without covering calibration.

I still considering which tripod to buy. Think I will be too lazy to bring out (even if I drive).

BTW just to share a tips, was reading one of the photography book and one of the tips is to use "bean bag" to put on a stable area and adjust the camera position. Seem good idea. Cheap and easy to carry around. Maybe we can bring those "baby float" to replace. Can easily inflat and deflat.
