Official Canon 500D user Thread (part 2)

I'm using Kingston 8GB Class 6 SDs too.. Buffer is stuck at 2 shots despite shooting at small jpeg.

Right now its still fine for travel photography but i cant take any sports or fast actions

Thanks

Hi,

You still can take sports or fast actions picture but not that pro.. still can accept.
I'm using 500D + 18-55mm kit lens. Below you can find my few humble photos ...

Thanks Shane!

Yes custom func 5 was the culprit.
Selecting option 2 (strong) for HI ISO noise reduction
reduces buffer to 2 shots regardless of
shooting ISO and picture size/format.

Turned it back to standard and my buffer is back to 9.
YIPPEE!

Have any of you 500D users used Canon 18-200mm lens or Tamron 18-270? I could not confirm which lens i want to get cos i keep on hearing reviews and both lens seems good. Im using 18-55 kit lens with 55-250 and i find it irritating in changing lens all the time. Can tell me your own review for both of that lens? Cos im considering either one of this lens.

Thanks!

Helloooo every one, just got my 500d a few days ago and i couldn`t be hapier. This is where i belong. Keep the tread up.;)

Check if you have something like Auto Lighting Optimiser or Highlight tone priority engaged. Such things increase the load on the Digic IV and lead to slower output.
one more thing, do you use raw + jpg together?

anyway i dun have problem with raw shoot only, can go 8-9 shot at one press continunously without pausing.

why do you keep changing lens.. you take what kind of photography that need to keep changing magazin~!!

some people learn how to zoom with their feet~!! its all about perspective and angle.. having a superzoom makes you lazy.. everytime just glue urself to the spot and zoom in.... zoom out..... looks ok..... press shutter......

i'm using the 18-200 from kit II. not sure if it is the one you're referring to. nothing much to complain about it since it has been serving me well only thing is that is kinda heavy. and though i saw some reviews on the lens that the distortion is quite evident at 18mm, it wasn't there for me =D maybe cos 500d is not a ff slr =D

and any recommendation for flashes? what's the diff btw those china made ones and the original ones from canon?

I dont see any difference...I'm using YongNuo 460 (manual) and Nissin Di466 (E-TTL). But if you can afford, go for Canon original!! ;)

It is evident at 18mm and when the review sites tested it they are using crop bodies of course since it is an EF-S lens so it's not about having FF body then you will have distortion. Take a few shots at vertical buildings side by side to see the effect.

HEy I am a Canon 500D user also !!! Can't Believe so many Bro and Sis using 500D. I felt so honorable to own a 500D myself hahaha

18-55mm is really a decent kit lens. neber fail to surprise me over this one yr i got my cam wahaha

exactly all those people who just started owning a DSLR and then wanna upgrade lens just B/S.. dunno what they are thinking...

Hi I'm a newbie here. I have a question using my 500D. I noticed that when I'am using the manual mode I can't control the brightness since its adjusting automatically. Is there a way I could control that? I was wondering if I will be using a 430 EXII speed light flash could correct it but what if its situational like, when I'm taking pictures inside a room with a dim light and I don't want to use my flash. When I use Time Value (Tv) usually I use 1/25, Aperture (auto), ISO 800 this setting can deliver a good image, so when I switch to manual mode obviously this setting should work but since the brightness is adjusting automatically so I need to change it.. I know this sounds odd since "manual mode" is setting things manually.. but is this really how it works? please help I just want to develop my skills using the "manual mode".. thanks to all of you guys in advance.

Hi, I just bought 500D body for $799 & enjoy the promotion to buy EF50mmF1.8II at $60. I came across DD Electronics website which are selling EFS 18-55mmF3.5-5.6IS at $123 & EFS 55-250mmF4-5.6IS at $245. Why their canon lens are so cheap? I'll call them tomorow to check it out/order/&self pickup.

DD sells grey set, means without manufacturer's warranty but they provide their own warranty instead. I think both lens are safe to buy for these prices as it's likely that you might upgrade soon esp the kit lens 18-55. Just test them properly.

Sithnayr: Exposure compensation, aperture, shutter speed, ISO works aren't really independent settings (i.e. they are related).
In other words you cannot say you want a certain level of exposure fixed and you can set any aperture and shutter speed as you like.

In Manual, you have control over ISO, aperture and Shutter speed. Then to what degree of exposure is actually the result of your settings being set. You want brighter pic? Either get a bigger aperture or slower shutter speed or increase your ISO.

Maybe you want to read up abit on the basics of photography to understand how each setting is related to another.

I pay a visit to DD Electronics store this morning at 76 South Bridge Road,#02-00,Merchants Building. You may park your car/bike along Hong Kong streets. Bought from them the two lens I wanted to get for my 500D(body). You get 2% off the price if you pay by cash at their store. That means I paid $120.54 for 18-55mm & $240.10 for 55-250mm.
If you're looking for 500D(body), you can get it there for only $663.46.
