Official Canon 500D user Thread (part 2)

Thanks guys , i will go for 17-55 for the next plan ;) .

And about the vivid picture , how to setup that one in our 500D picture style settings ? or is vivid just a nikon's term ?

Bro as for the picture style you can dl the file from canon webby http://web.canon.jp/imaging/picturestyle/index.html to ur com and transfer it into ur Cam.

17-55mm rocks.

But it is really hefty. It’s as heavy as the other 3 of my lens put together and cost more than 2x as much. You might need to get a Battery grip if you cannot get used to the weight.

It's not really that hefty in terms of weight. am using 17-85, the weight is not tat far off from 17-55. i will put it as slightly heavier compared to a 18-55 or 50mm lens.

If hefty, i will say 24-70mm F2.8 to be hefty weighing in at 960g

If your definition of 'slightly heavier’ is almost 3-4 times heavier than I stand corrected. 17-55 (645g) and 18-55(220g) and 50mm f1.8(130g). :D

17-85 is only 475g

since you are interested in portrait and landscape, zoom lens should not be necessary, hence your currently setup should be fine.
perhaps you should invest on a tripod since you take landscape, especially at night.

if you can afford get 17-55mm IS USM F2.8, think brand new around $1.5k

Canon 10-22mm for landscape (if you feel that your kit lens is not wide enough)
For portrait, i think your 50mm prime is fine. It really depends what kind of portrait you shoot - full body, half body or just head? Need to consider factors such as space constraints etc :)

I found the Full HD abit lag when i tried last week, have not try other video setting yet.

Full HD is limited to 20fps. Standard HD (720p) is 30fps and shouldn’t give u the lag feeling. :)

if still lag, better go for 7D full HD. guarantee won't lag ;)

Hi,

About video, it's stated in the manual that it's recommended to use Class 6 SD cards for video. It's about data transfer (writing) speed.

HTH.

Hi,

I am also a 500D user :) ... just want to ask.. do you guys usually pump up the camera picture style's image sharpness and saturation settings other than using the default levels of the different picture styles?

What picture style's sharpness and saturation settings do you usually use for your normal street and landscape photography?

Thanks in advance.. :)

Did saw that in the manual iirc...
However, when i record video in 720 size, the video upon playback is not jerky when i am using the kingston class 4 sdhc that canon gave when i bought the cam.

hi people,
I'm a 500D user interested in getting the Canon EF 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye lens.
Anyone has any opinions on it working on the 500D? Does it even work on a 500D? haha

thanks in advance
