Planning to get the 500D. I just wandering if anyone here using the Kit II len 18-200mm experience barrel distortion on the wide angle (18mm). dpreview show barrel distortion of 3.4% and their samples show very obvious distortion (buildings curving in etc). However they shot using 50D body, so just wandering if it is the effect on the 500D. Thanks

No problem on my end. This is a sample shot on taken at 18mm.

I'm currently using a hotshoe cover, the good thing is to cover the hotshoe from dust or any unwanted stuff, but the bad thing is that the pop up flash would not come up when u have the hotshoe cover on.

No need for pop up flash if you have external flash system, the built in flash lights is very hash to the subject.

good to know you like your 500D, the next thing you may want to consider go for free product training by canon, very beneficial.

Rysouke, i read the review of sigma 18-200mm and the barrel distortion at 18mm is 1.8%. How's your 18-250mm (extra 50mm woh..)? Maybe can upload some samples.

Burnings, thanks for the sample shot. Can try taking a landscape shot without any tilting and see if the horizon is curving?

17-55 has fast and silent focusing + very useful IS + extra 5mm reach. It is one of the best lens for crop bodies. Just go for it and you will not regret. :thumbsup:

500D is not a bad cam for the price! so far i so happy with the cam. done panning, landscape, portrait testing. so far ok. if i got better cam i dun mind like 7D wahhaa

tammy 17-50 non vc user here, compare USM, this lens is damn noisy and slightly slower, but compare to kit, the AF is noiser but faster. if you have a good copy, it is accurate even in low light condition.

There hasn't been any firmware updates since it came into the market.
