I will choose

My Contax 645 looks more retro ..............:p

Not much diff from d610 other than the obvious looks.. but the price... OMG.. faints.. I would choose this over the d610 if the price was more similar...

Not so sure about it, I think I would rather take the larger grip, 24MP and video.

I see thougth It identical to d600 spec san the sensor n sync speed
It's ugly but I don't think the design is important. I was just hoping for a more simplified body. The only good thing about this Frankenstein might be the sensor.

DPR said D3100. ;) "However, if you're really nerdy, you'll recognize it in the design of the live view switch of the Nikon D3100."

Since the Df has 5.5fps like the D600 I guess it also has the same shutter and not the one from the D610 (6fps). ;)

Quite frankly, I might be able to look beyond the terrible appearance if they had a D600 or D800 sensor in it.

D610 is definitely more general purpose of course.. which is why the price is actually very attractive for a first FX.
what attracts for the Df is the manual controls, back to basic feel.. 16mp is really more than enough even for large prints, the impressive power saving function now is like wow.. ~1000shots? this design is really for the travellers/street centric I feel.. would have been super keen if they have made it mirrorless, throw in a wifi/gps function and throw in more of a retro viewfinder feel.. truly would have been a hybrid.. just dreaming..

Nikon thinks that they can sell a few million retro looking cameras so it doesn't matter if the DF is neither here nor there.

DPR:

"My worry about the Df is that Nikon might have gone too far backwards for the sake of cosmetic appeal, without really adding any practical benefit to the shooting experience.
Don't get me wrong - personally, in my brief time with the camera, I enjoyed the experience of holding and using the Df. But even with the Kool Aid within reach, I certainly wouldn't try to convince anyone that its control logic - which heavily promotes the use of dedicated, lockablemechanical dials - is any better than a camera like the D610.
As such, although I hate to say it: from a cold, hard practical point of view, I can't shake the feeling that the Df is a little bit... silly."

SGD $3980 estimate...... incl the crappy plastic lens.

Thank you Nikon for the pricing...... no need to be torn between all the brand/model...... make life easier for peasant like me.... ;)

I think that's exactly what it is (marketing has overtaken the photographers in this one). The difference with a film SLR, is that it can be had next to nothing. So.. its easy to simply add an FM<add favorite version here> to your set up (for a couple of hundred $, how wrong can you go?).. but before one gives Nikon say $3,500 (when the price settles) for a 16MP AF camera just because it looks retro, one has to think what he is getting back.. in this instance, I think the market is smaller than what Nikon thinks.. though I think Nikon thinks that the market is bigger than what I think.. time will tell... consider sales volume of A7 vs sales volume of DF... LOL..

I'm disappointed with the size and the price. does not look a lot smaller than d600 and not competitive with sony's A7...
But I am digging the retro styling and the control dials!

I think the A7 will sell a lot better. If Nikon had decluttered the Df and would have priced it at the A7 level they would have a killer product now instead.

I can't agree more.. Nikon USA website actually has a customer survey which I think everyone who was expecting more from Nikon should take part in just to give opinions

What are they thinking, SGD$3980???

It is fugging UGLY and WAY OVER PRICED !!!

It is as though Nikon has become the Canon of 2009 and suddenly lost their senses & track of everything in the market. Nikon is not a Leica. This seems like the first time in a long while when Nikon practically released re-badged product with no real improvements which simply aims at selling to fanboys, collectors (really?) & rich kids. But I will sympathize as this might be the best risk free method to recover financially from the D800 & D600 QA sagas, which honestly must have been tough on nikon. As eow explained, it might be plausible that these 5.5 fps, 39 pt AF parts originate from that very source. But let's not stir and focus on the products we will buy. The effort made to design a body that connects seamlessly with older AF-D & AIS lenses is worthy of a few half-hearted praises still.

But history tells that after the storm there is paradise. So let's just wait and suffer for the moment. Nikon is still part of Mitsubishi Group so financially they should be able to remain sound.

I was hoping more of a Fuji X-pro 1 type of photography. Haha. Just have to manage my expectations.

You get a 16MP sensor with more ISO headroom than either camera. What's the beef? Still on the Megapixel rat race?

Sell to whom? THere are only 2 miserable lenses for that system so far. People following the NEX system would surely know by now that Sony will take their bloody ass time to release a decent lens system, if they ever do. And honestly, do you want to use the Alpha system lenses on the A7?

Sorry to say this... I am disappointed by Nikon DF. Same old sensor from D800(not a bad thing actually) similarly expensively priced and bulky body. No Video.
It's slightly smaller size will not really help it much since FF lens big and heavy. Egonomics will suffer.

I really don't see why I shld buy it over d800. The only reason why anyone would buy it is properly for looks I guess.
