Thanks. But how do you know when the image is in focus, just through trial and error?
Maybe he's using his eye, works for me even with smaller viewfinders. Just guessing here. :|

Yes, you're right. A bit more difficult when it's dark. But I will just focus to infinity for distance shots.

Yes, mate. A bit more strain on the eyes for old guys like me.:)

Thanks once again. At 67, I gave up on DSLR for manual focusing even with the #S focusing screen. I need something like focus peaking with magnification without taking my eyes off the VF.

Yes it is. Why are you asking?
Looked so misty like you just took the camera out of an aircon room and immediately shot with it.

It looks so grainy even at that small size it could have been taken by a mobile phone.

Thanks ageha and tomcat. Shot it at auto high iso without adjusting. And also cropped quite a bit. Certainly not from mobile phone. Cheers

Usually night shots don't work well on auto, I would at least dial in a negative compensation otherwise especially the dark areas look overexposed and desaturated and the noise is more visible than necessary.

Yes thanks very much for reminding. I got a bit excited with the new toy and forgot the basics. :)

A night shot with the Df and 28mm f1.4

Seems noisy, what was the ISO setting?

Yes, at 6400. As I was telling ageha, excitement with new toy got the better of me and basics flew out the window.

Thanks! Handling is straightforward - set Df to manual, set shutter speed and adjust aperture or vice versa and you're good to go. Machiam old school.
Focus until picture is sharp; no split screen type focusing. Amazing lens which picks up tiny details from far away.

What a nice picture you have ! :D

I believe that the Df should have the guide arrows to tell you know which lens direction to focus.

I have used my set of ais lenses for many years and I sure know which direction to focus. My question is how you know when it is in focus.

I wish it had a confirmation beep instead. I don't like to look at the bottom of the VF.

The arrows are to guide focusing with a spot indicator (and the beep) to confirm focus ........

Those who have bought the DF (and who have used D700/D800 series) how does the smaller grip affect the ergonomic? Does it still feel comfortable for shooting a few hours?

If you are like me with a "large" hand, it will feel insecure. This and apart from having to carefully hold the camera whilst dialling the dials on top, it is otherwise a joy to handle.
