Official 600D Users Thread

Hi all. Just a quick question. I'm sorry if this question have been answered but I just couldnt find the thread to my question.
Anyway. I have problem while recording video on my 600d. It's always stop the recording n " video stopped automatically" message display on the screen.
My memory card is class 6 lexar brand and it's 8gb. Is it because of the small gb on the memory card? Anyone have problem like this? Do help me. Thanks in advance.

And also one more thing., is there any ways to store the camera properly? Must it be store camera facibg upstraight? And do will the camera have any problem is its not been on for quite long cause I'm quite bz with work. Sometimes I will bring the camera out after like a month o so. But I take out the battery whenever iI store them. Will there any problem if it's not Been on for so long. ?
Appriciate all your reply. Thank you.

The lexar SD card is not fast enough to take long videos, I suggest getting the sandisk extreme video SD card, it is much faster and the video won't stop automatically. Around $40 for 16gb.

The proper way to store a DSLR is keep it in a dry cabinet, because Singapore weather is humid thus will lead to fungus growing on the lenses or body if not used for too long. A decent 30l dry cabinet will set you back for around $130.

If she come as tourist she can do the GST refund, will get back 5.5% of the total price paid.

Jellybean, remember to ask for GST refund slip for everything you bought from the shop (price must be more than 100), then claim the money at the airport.

Like voice123 said, go walk around Funan IT mall, but go in those few recommended shop only. Don't get scammed. Please also check for international warranty, if any...

Thanks to you both! But sorry, what are those recommended shops? Do you have like a list of it? And do you have any idea how much would it costs? Actually, the cheapest that I saw in the net is SGD1,050, do you know any shop that can offer lower than that? Sorry if that sounds too much, just really hoping for a "smart buy".

Thanks again in advance for the help!

This is the Canon price list contributed by many CSers. The recommended shops are listed in the first post as well.

The Funan mall as recommended by one of the posters is your best bet. Avoid Lucky Plaza on Orchard Road like the plague. It is very popular among tourists, but for camera equipment most shops at Lucky Plaza are crooks.

Most shops at Funan are very reputable however, avoid Bally Photo. Some popular shops include: John 3:16, TK Photo, Alan Photo and SLR Revolution. There are also department-like stores like Harvey Norman (basement floor) and Challenger (top floor)... they too are reputable but prices are generally a little higher. Across the street in Peninsula Plaza is another reputable shop called Cathay Photo.

Good luck and have fun with your shopping! Where are you coming from?

because i am intend to keep in in a tupperware with silica gels,

i haven't bought any thing yet to store it, because i am practicing every day to familiar with the camera shot.

Tupperware with siilca gels should be OK... many people have done this before. But I've heard that the silica gels have to be refreshed on a regular basis. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable in this area can jump in...

In place of silica gels, you can also use rice.

The four "gray" corners are known as vignetting. This usually occurs when taking a photo at the wide end of a zoom lens with an open aperture. An example would be taking a photo with a Canon 17-40 lens at 17mm with an f/4 aperture. Vignetting will occur because there is a drop-off of light going to the corners.

This can be corrected in post processing. Some people just leave as it is because of the artistic/creative look of it. BTW: It's perfectly normal.

noob here...bought my 600d few weeks back (EF18-135mm) and I have been practicing regularly ever since. One effect I would like to see in my pics is the bokeh effect. So far, I have taken pics of my daughter/wife in midst of crowds & objects in the background. Bokeh effect is ok but not prominent enough for me.

Saw this Canon lens EF50mm f/1.8 II @ affordable price of $159. Will it create nice bokeh effect on my photos? Any tips also for creating good bokeh even if using EF18-135mm?

Appreciate your thoughts and comments.

True, thats why many people recommend lenses around 30mm for cropped body for equivalent 50mm on FF body.

一分钱,一分货。
What is your definition of "cheap"?
30mm is a prime lens and they are usually not "cheap".
A lot of users will highly recommend that you get the Sigma 30mm/1.4 if your budget permits.
Else, go over to BnS section and look for people selling theirs.
If budget is an issue, stick to the Canon 50mm/1.8 and use your legs to frame your picture if taking outdoor pics. For indoors, due t the space constraints, you may not be able to capture that wide with the 50mm. In this case, you need to get the 30mm or one of those 17-50 lens.

but getting crop lens has no future proof.
