Nothing runs smoothly on most netbooks except low-CPU programs like words/ internet browser/ audio editing etc. Image editing will depend if your pic file is small enough:)

i photoshop my photos on netbook :bsmilie:
with CS5 & lightroom install :bsmilie:
nothing slow

except CS5 got problem on "save as" command which require resolution at least 1024*768.
btw, new netbook can boost resolution to 1024*768, so I don't see any problems with photoshop at netbook :D

oo yah, btw I using 5D MKII, and I only shoot in raw.

erm... depend on how many software installed in the netbook, whether they are resource intensive, etc...

Interesting.... What is brand and model of your netbook? How much RAM do you run with and what is the capacity of your hard drive? Sorry for all the questions, but I am considering a netbook for myself.

MSI U100, 2G RAM, 150GB HD :D
take note that I'm unable to use the "save as" function in CS5. this is due to this request a least 1024*768 resolution, this can be solve if you run window7 because they have a driver to boost the resolution. you can find this information on internet :D

hi all,

thinking to buy 5dmk2 as my first dslr... a few questions..

1. how easy is it for a non dslr user (gf and mum) to take a picture with it? i.e able to shoot via the lcd instead of view finder ? auto mode good enough ?

2. read a few reports that the video recording isnt that great. does the 60d and nikon d7000 does the same thing? (not a video shooter.. just hope to use it at times to capture good moments)

3. how does the f4L 24 105 kit len performs in low light ? played with the 5d m2 with 16 35 f2.8 and its fantastic!

i know it sounds weird but i am looking also at 60d and nikon d7000. one of the main reason for dslr.. no flash / low light shooting and taking kids and at times do appreciate taking landscape.

recommendations for lens? as my friend has a 16 35 f2.8 and 50 f1.4 and willing to share what should i get ? 24 70 f 2.8 ? or kit lens as primary ?

thanks ;)

Its a good buy definitely. No need to listen to other people's mama reason saying you need to buy a beginner cam to start with. If you can afford it, then just start from a 5D mk2 . nothing wrong with it.

easier to use VF when handheld instead of LCD coz of the camera weight.

how good you want the video to be? hollywood standard? 5d mk2 was use for local video production.

lens choice is personal. cant advice

1. Once you step into the world of DSLR, you should stop using LCD and use viewfinder instead. It is very simple. Besides, if u want to use LCD to shoot solely, the way you hold your cam will look very awkward. 5DMKII no more auto modes (referring to landscape, sports, protraits etc)

2. what u mean by isn't that great? you should have do some research, in fact a lot of wedding videography is shot using 5DMKII

3. 24-105 is only f4. to shoot in low light, u need wide aperture lens. you should look at prime lens, eg 50mm f1.4

to be frank, any DSLR can shoot in low light, it doesn't depends on your cam that much (unless u want very good noise control) but rather what lens u are using. See my reply in 3.

if u want to get a 5DMKII, just get a 50mm f1.4, it is good enough for all occasion (shooting your child, landscape, low light and video).

I reckon you should get the 24-105L with the 5D2 for all-purpose photography and especially because you do not know which focal length you favor the most so its better to start with a zoom. The IS would be very helpful for video and low light shooting.

If image quality and bokeh matters a lot in your work, then you can consider primes later on. The L lenses retain their value, you won't lose much money selling them away. Anyway, like you said you can also borrow the other lenses from ur friend. In fact, you all can leverage and exchange with each other to play around :)

Cheers
