It's good to have both but if one were to choose only one, then depends one's shooting style. Like me, strictly an old legacy lens guy, I will go for one that is more adaptable. Is the 7D's VF really larger than the FF VF in absolute size?

There's rumor of a new FF that's going to slot in just below the 5D2/3, lower mp, hopefully 18 or 21. This may be worth waiting for.

wait lor, dunno what announcement they coming out soon. one can only speculate as of now.

One is FF and the other is APS-C so they're very different cameras. But of cos the 7D is more advanced in terms of technology.

ohhhh No.4 i Agree, getting old the small LCD for the 5D very hard to see. lol!

I've no issues with 5D's 2.5" LCD except the brightness. So I always put in second brightest level.

Yes that is the few points that u highlighted that I taught about too.... Plus I love the feel of the 7d & the technology is juz amazing...

was camping out at the BnS section in my hunt for a 17-40 and noticed that there has been so many WTS 5D threads recently...gEESh i feel so sad that so many are dumping their 5Ds... so tempted to pick up another set ....

Well there are lots of possibility... maybe they are just trying to trade the 5d they got overseas for a profit. Yah me too looking for a 17-40mm but would most prop buy a brand new one once I save up. Already poison too deep so got to control before my CFO...... u know what.

Well depends on you needs. I prefer the 5d cos its older and I guess it force me to be more creative and learn the basic skills I need. Newer cam too smart and would have condition me to be lazy. Lolx

Good point bro! I am an old school so I would love to be creative rather than rely on all the latest technology... Maybe I would wait for 5d MK III to release then get the MK II by then the price here would prob b $2k

I got lucky and got a UY copy at $800, but it's slightly back focused and i'm sending it for calibration soon. Just wondering if i should calibrate the lens to my 5D rather then the other way round cos i will also be using it on my 50D. Make sense right? or else my other lenses will be off.

5D being my first DSLR and a used cam at that do not pose any problems for me. I always
felt that my choice of the 'old lady' 5D was absolutely right. It worked fine with my Zeiss
lens be it the manual or my recent converted AF lens this will ceratinly last me a couple more
good years with it.

I had a very difficult time looking for a BG-E4 on the B&S. Most of them were being sold as a couple... Canon 5D + BG-E4. None of the sellers I contacted wanted to break them up. I was fortunate to take a trip to Hong Kong about 2 or 3 weeks ago and found an Electronics/Computer Centre called Sim City in Mong Kok. I found several copies in varying condition (mostly good). Prices ranged from HK$600 to HK$1200 with HK$800 being the norm. Bargaining is a must.

I was lucky to find a shop willing to sell a very good condition BG-E4 for only HK$600.

The first thing to be aware of (and forgive me if this is obvious) but the 5D will not be able to use any EF-S lens that you may have with your crop.

The lack of auto ISO is not a big deal. You'll get used to this quickly. However, the 3 things that I had the most difficulty adjusting to when using the 5D after crop:

1. Lack of live view.
2. Smaller and inferior LCD (not as much detail).
3. Lack of dust prevention for the sensor.

But like the auto ISO issue, one can quickly adjust.

The Canon 5D classic is a 6 year old camera and it can no longer be considered technologically advanced when compared to the latest generation of cameras. Despite this, it is very capable in the IQ department. It may struggle a little with low light especially when compared to the latest cameras but its IQ can still complete with the best.

No problem with the lenses cus the only EF-S lens I have is the 18-55, the rest all EF lens.

Ok, the lack of Auto ISO should be good also to train me to be less reliant.

The diff is that yr lens will be wider and less tele and also EF-S lenses will no longer be compatible. In addition, there will not be anymore non-creative modes on the dial.

It an amazing camera IQ wise. But I sure hate the auto-focusing. It is not very sensitive. BTW did any of you notice that the shutter open and close quite violently? Can really feel the vibrations when it opens.

5D are still able to meet all my expectations. So far I'm very happy with it.
Unless there's a new generation of 5D that can convince me to let it go...
