5D user here, just a check, anyone's 5D died before? Mine mysteriously died today no warning. About 40k clicks 3-4 years old set. Sent in to camera hospital for a diagnosis.
Checks online shows a possible blown fuse if 5D just suddenly refuse to turn on.
Called Canon and was quoted a rough estimate of 400 and above to replace the circuit board. Decided to send to CH due to possibly quicker turnover time.
sad =(

Wow, $400 for the logic board?
I think there is some minor problem with my 5D logic board, it takes unusually long to write files to the CF card and for the image taken to appear on the screen.
Compared side-by-side with my friends 5D, exact same settings and CF card, his takes less than half the time of my 5D to finish writing the files and display the image on the LCD.
Heart very pain -.- especially when i let go one of my 5D in BNS and crap happens with the current one i keep.
I've a suggestion for your 5D. Firmware. Is it up to date?
yup, both my 5D and my friends 5D are the latest firmware.
I brought both down to CSC, they said its most likely logic board in my 5D, but they will have to take it in to diagnose.

What is your current shutter count now? Quite uncommon to hear this problem
I bought it 2nd hand about 3 months ago. the owner (he was the first owner) told me he took about 25000 shots. And the file number was about right, at IMG_5XXX.cr2
I trust him and did not go CSC to check the count. so far in these 3 months i took just under 1000 shots. So now if he was telling the truth, it shd be about 26000.
But apart from the slow card writing and image playback, everything is working fine.
Oh I see.
I saw a few sellers in B&S putting their 5D SC as "around 10k". Frankly, other then Anthony who have all the documentary proofs, I doubt the rest are truthful. :bsmilie: (You guys know who you are...)
But yours if upfront tell you 25k, I think still ok lah. But if you do want to do a SC check in CSC, you may just want to be mentally prepared that it may be alot more than that........
By the way, have you tried a slightly faster CF card to see if there is any difference?
Yep, my main card is a Sandisk Ultra 30MB/s, I have tried slower cards like the normal Kingston card and faster cards like Sandisk Extreme all about the same...

What does that do?Check your custom functions. Is the "Add original decision data" enabled? that may be the culprit![]()
