Hi guys, have you guys tried to blow out dust from the sensor?

My 5D have 2 minor dust which appear from f13 onwards. I shoot with the 17-40L. I am thinking whether to try to blow it away first or to send it in to CSC.....:think: Cost $20+GST, have called to confirm.

I need to get rid of the dust spot as I need to print some landscape shots. it does not appear at f11 and below.

You guys think should just leave it as it is or get it cleared? :dunno: Anyone with similar experience?

I always try to get it cleared if it becomes too obvious and irritating. CSC doesn't always do a gd job as recently I brought mine for sensor cleaning and when they returned to me, the same spot is still there!

So I feedback to them and waited a while more as they immediately cleaned it again, ultimately after another technician did it, was clean already.

surely! dont even intend to sell it. confirm change shutter after this dies on me. hahaha!

Yup, thats why I always check after it has been cleaned and returned.

Yes due to larger sensor which gives better DOF control. The 1D series is APH-H size sensor while the 1Ds series is full-frame, so don't be confused.

1D is not FF, it is APS-H.

1Ds is full frame.

Think u're still confused. Let me make it clearer:

APS-C (1.6X), APS-H (1.3X) and FF (1X).

The size of the sensor affects the DOF. The larger the sensor, the shallower the DOF at the same aperture size (eg F/2.8).

Yes, while its true that the larger sensor produces better DOF, there are additional factors that enable cameras to do certain functions better than others. To answer your question, are the Canon 5D and Canon 1Ds cameras better for landscape and portraits... the short answer is YES.

Larger sensor = better DOF is one answer. But if we look at the camera as a whole, there are other compelling reasons.

If we compare the 5D (full frame) vs. 7D (APS-C crop) or the 1Ds (full frame) vs. 1D (APS-H crop), we can see that both the 7D and 1D have superior AF systems. These are very fast and highly accurate AF systems that enable these cameras to be better suited for sports, fast action and events photography. Whereas the 5D and 1Ds have normal or slower AF systems that are better suited to landscapes and portraits. Does this mean that the 7D and 1D cannot be used for landscapes and portraits... of course not. By the same token, many have been successful producing great fast action photographs with the 5D and 1Ds cameras.

There are other factors which makes one better than the other but this post is getting long enough. I'll defer to others to jump in and make some additional contributions.

Thank-you for the corrections. Yes, you bring up a good point about burst speed between the 1D and 1Ds. The 1D would be superior in this regard when it comes to fast action photography.
