1) hmm... interested to learn about your lighting for the second picture. can i assume that the lighting on your model came from a source but not from a camera flash?

there wasn't any, just ambient ( ̄∇ ̄ )

2) heard about sigma 50mm 1.4. did you take those pictures with it? any editing? like the colour of the pictures.

only the 1st, the 2nd is canon's (`・ω・´)9
the colors are enhanced

wonder if anyone like to share what lens do they pair with their 5D? Looking for get a wide angle zoom lens for my next buy.

Did some research but not really experience or knowledge so most of the lens i read are canon.

Maybe you guys can share about the following lens and if you use them can share some experience with them.

1) Canon 24-105mm 4L
2) Canon 24-70mm 2.8L
3) or any other brands

most of the time its 70-200, the range is most useful for my everyday needs

both 24-105 and 24-70 are great, the 1st offers range and stability while the latter offers a stop wider on the aperture

but if wideness is all you need, the 17-40 is a better choice - wider, lighter and cheaper ( ̄∇ ̄ )

this hobby is as expensive as triathlon... need to get a hdd to ensure my laptop hdd won't be loaded with the future pictures i plan to take.

Your query is somewhat confusing. The lenses you mention are mid-range zooms but you are talking about getting a wide zoom....

I use the 17-40 wide zoom on my 5D. I can say that this is an amazing lens. I really enjoy using it... good centre sharpness, good colour and good contrast.

Both of the Canon mid-range lenses that you've listed are very good too. I've tried the 24-105 but I don't own it yet. Just like the 17-40, it is a very good lens plus it has IS. I currently own the 28-135 lens which is a much cheaper lens, until I can afford to get the 24-105. I've heard that the new 5D Mk III will come with a new version of the 24-105. Perhaps that will be a good time to buy.

As mentioned, if you're looking for UWA, then:

Canon 17-40 for great value for money
Sigma 12-24 for wideness
Nikon 14-24 for ultimate IQ (manual focus only and needs EOS adaptor)

Tried it with different CF cards?

And also try to read the CF card using card reader instead or use different USB port if you're accessing the images directly from the camera.

I've used the CF card reader to access my images. So far I have 2 of these corrupted images out of 1000 pictures :(

Tried other CF cards already?

Tried already. No corrupted images. But the corrupted images don't show up frequently; its like 2/1000 chance in showing up only so I would have to test up to a few hundred shots to determine if the corrupted images show up.... so with the initial CF card, it just shows up randomly, not every shot... I wonder what went wrong?

The problem is usually due to the USB connection or CF card issue. Anyway, the pictures appeared to be okay when you viewed them through the camera right?

Format the CF card after moving all the files off, don't just delete the files.

yep they're ok when viewed through the camera. glad to hear that it hasn't got to do with my camera itself. thanks!

yup, you can try removing all the photos and clean formatting the card, or try another card reader. I had this issue before with those cheap no-brand card readers.

just buy my 5D so can i joint in the fun too
