As of 1 July 2006, I am finally a proud owner of a 7D!!!!!!:D :D :D :D
would like to thank l_n_h for willing to sell his 7D at such a low price to me with a few weeks of warrnty to spare.

however, after using to camera, i think i might be using the warrnty soon, here's a few questions i want to ask:

1. After taking some shots, i noticed that there are some(2 i think) blue dots appearing in my photos. they look like bright pixels to me and not dust. seller told me that 7D will do pixel mapping every starting of the month and told me that it will be ok. but still, isn't pixel mapping solving the problem from the surface but not from the root?

2. i noticed that the AS is quite erractic. in some shots, the AS makes no sound, but other times, it makes this consideribly loud grinding sound. normal, or abnormal?

Hiee Satay...

Welcome on board the happy user group!!!
Mai tu liow!! Shoot shoot shoot...

You can have the best sets of help and knowledge experience form your fellow KM users.
Soon the group of KM A mount users will increase as the SOny Alpha is released...

Happy shooting...

hehe, so you're the one who bought it. congrats on your new 7D :)

yes, the camera does pixel mapping, but the start of the month just passed. if you're really curious, reset the date to end of the month, wait one day then turn the camera on again and see if the dots go away.

there's millions of pixels, so one or two isn't really a problem, don't worry too much. spoke to a km tech before, he said not worth changing the sensor for something like this. later got more problems instead.

welcome aboard! go shoot some nice photos! :D

I also remember when I had my 7D I got some bright pixels. I tried a lot of method to activate the pixel map by changing date and restarting the Camera. But it did not work. But after like one or two weeks, the dots disappeared by themselves :)

The remapping should work...

The AS is completely silent... grinding sound is no good...

The AS mechanism may not have good QC? Cos if you do a bit of reseach, there are many who claims the AS is noisy (especially on the 5D?), while others have completely silent sets...

Anyway, seems to work either way.

Just for the record, mine doesn't grind, and you wonder sometimes if it isn't working... :)

BTW, I am *SO* glad you called yourself a Minoltian rather than a "KM'er" or "Sony'er"...

haha. for the record, the first film camera that got me into photography was a minolta. my first digital camera was minolta A1(A2 is konica minolta). so now, my first DSLR is also a minolta(ok....maybe a konica minolta).

btw, it is already the 2 july, but noticed that the 2 dots are still there. and i guess still have to go to sony center as the AS is loud sometimes and silent at other times. i did a test. i tried taking a night scenary at 5 sec with AS on on a tripod. when the AS makes no sound, photo looks perfect. when it is grinding away at that shot, blur pictures.

erm.. AS has to be "off" when using a tripod...

yeah, but the thing is pictures are only blur when there is the grinding sound. if there is no grinding sound, picture isn't blur with AS on.

See I told you that 5D was a better cam ........ ;)

You had also believe me when I tell you about the lenses ........ I don't play play .... you know

Satay16, Welcome to 7D family. I am also a D7D user too. Have been observing your minolta purchase recently too.. ;)

going to wisma tml. guess will be asking them to fix 3 issues:
1. Bright pixels. (Did not go away after setting camera date to 1 Aug.)
2. Erratic AS. (Makes a loud grinding sound for some shots, causing them to be blur too.)
3. Problematic battery compartment. (As described in the other thread.)

however, truthfully speaking, i am enjoying this camera greatly. it is definately somewhat more exciting to use when compared to the 10D i often use in school.:D

U need to set the date one day before the 1st of the month! Setting it to 1 Aug will not work... you should have set to 30 Jun and wait for the camera to move to 1 Jul... can try again lar...

just sent my 7D for servicing, and also met Pranadewa at sony to buy a sigma 17-50 2.8. noticed its pretty slow focusing speed, but can't find any other good lenses within the 17-XX range(other than the 17-35G).
