Well said  I never heard of Odex until I read the article on net.

Btw I think its wrong that the Odex guy is getting death threats.

yes its wrong. I think people should be better than that. besides the ones who make the threats should use their brain abit and think: the best way to hurt him is to boycott his products.

p.s. Vote Claudia! lol

as the Odex people are at that, anyone has information/knowledge whether the original anime makers are entitled to a cut Odex will get from all the law suits?

Online petition is usually quite useless in Singapore.

You might want to follow through this Odex saga closely now.

It seemed that ppl are gathering forces to fight this case.

And ST senior writer wrote a very nice read up regarding the entire saga.

Ppl who got no idea of what's happening maybe should k-poh and read too.

In my opinion, this whole saga is ridiculous.

I tink Singaporeans had enough of threats and money extortion.

Parents of those illegal downloaders were forced to bear responsibility and ordered to pay 3K

to 10K of compensation to ODEX. Some families really got hit by the scare tactics and

promptly paid up to avoid further implication or embroiled in law suits. But by signing that

dreadful letter, you are liable to more possible lawsuits by other distributor.

I just wanna say, Odex u have been double 6'ed yourself.

another 1k of 'illegal' downloaders from starhub's.

let me see, 1k X S$3k.

wow. wat a windfall.

it's plain for all to see, isn't it?

Sounds like the RIAA doesn't it?

ot: vote Claudia!!!

Honestly I could never find good anime titles in Singapore. (and at a reasonable price?)

I have a regular job but even so, find it expensive and the quality (still VCD???, only Chinese subtitles???) awful. I can't imagine if I am a kiddo studying in school would pay that kinda money to watch Gundam Seed for example...

Yes, its lazy effort from Odex. They didn't do anything to increase the awareness of Anime shows in Sg and now they wanna sue people for supposely denied them of earning the distribution rights.

I am angry coz Odex did nothing, its Mediacorp (showing Gundam and othe Anime shows at ArtsCentral) and Tai Sheng (Organising Gundam model competitions and displays) which made the kiddos interested in Anime in the first place in Singapore.

horhorhor.
They bought the distribution rights, not just claim it.
Why would the original anime makers get a cut Odex gets from the law suits?

Certainly, suing all the downloaders is much more profitable than making them all buy it.

really? any information about the limits of their rights? which company they bought the rights from and so on? anime is a huge market you know

garou vote simi claudia... 1 more vote claudia, i put u up as a spammer.

I totally agree on that.

Example

Pirated DVD SGD 5 to 7 dollars.
Quality might be excellent or lousy depending on luck
Audio can be crappy and most of the time subtitles are done by jokers that cant spell to save their lives.

Legal DVD SGD 14 to 17 dollars
Just movie alone

Legal DVD SGD 20 to 25 dollars
With making of, interviews etc etc

Most important of all with the extra few dollars I pay, I am assured of good quality picture, good audio and correct subtitles, I would buy legal.

However if legal discs are priced at 40 and above..... give me pirated anytime man.....

paiseh, anime not so cheap...

i bought my spirited away jap R2 for 80 bucks iirc...

akira SE japan R2 box, 230 bucks or more i forgot...

most of the jap dvds are never cheap to start with... a normal jap R2 dvd will set you back at least 40.

and to whoever say a game is 69.90, paiseh again, ntsc jap ps2/ps3 sell approximately 100-130 in sg, LE, 150-300...

originals are never cheap, but its the way we show our support back to the makers... (althou i sometimes accidentally supported craps)
