Hi all

We will fix the two groups as it is for the moment, 7 on each day, unless lazyleo76 or Lion King can't make it on Sept 17.

For those who do not have the X-sync on their cameras, pls do try to get the IR triggers/ hotshoe adaptors k? *smiles*... and also, as Ced has mentioned repetitively, do bring the appropriate lens :)

If there are questions rgding what was said during last week's workshop that you want to bring up or clarify, go ahead and ask k? :) We are all learning from one another...

Will follow up with more updates for the first group.

How many wants to do a MO for the adapter? i may be going down to ruby thes weekend.. then again.. i may want to fork out bit more to get the bowen trigger... can use syn cable, infr, and radio frequent.. so it all in 1 .. but then again... it costly ... i think it about 150 buck...

I think it's not worth paying for a unit like that though, simply because when the infra red unit breaks down, it breaks down as a whole. It's not like when the radio is down, you can choose to use cable.... I would think a infra red(simple unit would do), when spoitl, just replace it...

People would use radio unit when they're shooting cars, and the sets are big that that'll use a radio unit to prevent misfiring as compared to infra red. The reasoning is that we're in studio, and infra red serves the purpose perfectly. We don't use a bazooka to gun down a human being.

So guys, save your money for better usage... I won't stop you if you have cash to spare though....

I promise this is my last question.. can I use my SB800 as trigger and tape up the head so no lights will flash? I'm on the opposite end of Luval and trying to avoid buying white elephants since I don't have studio and . ;p

That method can be used as a backup plan if your infra red fails to trigger...but surely weight gaining if you can to hand hold... and in any case you're doing close ups for face, that would have cost you a catch light in the black eye balls...so you may wanna drop that...

People a little know fact is that with any of the SB flashs for the nikon system when the flash is mounted you can plug in the syn cord to the syn cord socket of the flash - when you fire (the flash need not be on) the studio flash will trigger - it is the same as having the 10 to 14 bucks syn socket connector that you can get from Ruby or Cathay. I do not know if the cannon system is similar but I think it should be. Photography is a money pit, you should buy when you need to not because it seems like a good idea.

Example the bowen's trigger - it would be wise to check if this will work with any reciever becasue I think it is designed to work with the newer bowen's flashes which have recievers built in ......for flashes without what are you going to do to make the rf trigger work ? East Gear / Ruby sells a cheap china made rf trigger this is workable sort of.... a quirk I do not know if it applies to all units is that when you place batteries into the reciever it sort of takes a while before the dang thing will work - so either you leave batteries there or place in batteries at least 1 day in advance or test the blessed thing works before you go use it. Fun right ? Spot on like hell its fun but then this is what separates a $600 flash trigger system from one that abt15% of the cost. Forgot to mention some flourescent lights will emit rf of the same frequency causing the blessed thing to think you are click off. Luckly I found the quirks out in non demanding circumstances.....

Food for thoughts.. Thanks... I'm also afraid to buy indiscriminately.. already saw a few who brought triggers but fail to trigger. I will try the SB thingie and if really can't then buy the $14 Ruby Trigger... and sell it next month.. :bsmilie:

Good on ya Ellery, that's something I don't know about....So, that's solved....weight issue now....

Just checked SB800 manual, there are 2 sockets on the left side and one is for sync cord... I just hope the sync is not another proprietary size only Nikon gadgets can use.
