Noob - Panasonic DMC G10

I think thus far this is the only thread on G10. Good stuff

Yes, apparently, it's much, much better.

If the TS is going for 4x6 photos, I don't think it will matter, though.

yep true if just plain 4x6 prints it'll be the same but working on low light condition and a good soft blurring for some shots i think panny wins over the oly pancake. i used to own the 25mm sharpness was good for a normal grade Oly lens.

But with the price oly bnew around 350SGD and Panny 2nd hand around 500 I think it's worth to get the panny 20mm...

I hope the TS will place here some review of the cam or other bro/sis who owns the same cam to provide us some insight ;p:lovegrin:

If I were going to a micro Four-Thirds body, the 20mm f/1.7 is the only lens I'd buy, most likely.

It would be a pleasure to go back to a simpler time with such a combination. I don't feel comfortable taking a lot of time with a photo any more. I'd certainly suggest a fixed focal length lens for every beginner, so that they can learn about photography first and dazzle us with the camera's automatic capabilities later.

yup... me seriously considering the panny pancake lens now.. amazon selling us$380... still a whopping S$500 plus...

Ive taken abt 100 shots with this G10 so far.. all in auto mode :embrass:

no time to figure out manual mode yet...

some findings:

- image quality much better & sharper than my own point and shoot compact haha dat's of course
- easy to grip and pretty lightweight
- AF doesn perform very well in poor lighting without flash and its normal daylight in enclosed room.. i see it as pretty bright, duno why camera find it not bright enough and ask me to switch on flash
- AF is great to use, in bright enough lighting conditions, its a joy to shoot my daughter in close up conditions, the AF focus will give some limited depth of field to the background...
- Shutter speed (auto mode) is abit slow, still get blurry images when children move... anyway to rectify dat?

Will try to post some images taken here (but on auto mode hee)

I want panny prime lens!!! but so so exp

You can try the following to increase the shutter speed:
1) Shoot in better lighting conditions
2) Use a higher ISO
3) User larger aperture in Aperture priority or manual mode (smaller F number)
4) Use flash

thks for detailed review!!

just bought prime lens... will update wif some shots when i get hold of e lens

Remember to post your shots in the Gallery section above, and not into this thread please. It would be better for your camera's sample images be shared in the right place.

Congrats on your purchase, and I sure hope you have hours and hours of fun using it.
