Was around the Esplanade area and not prepared to do any night shoot. But could not resist trying.

No tripod with me so shots are hand held. Looks like there's some hand shake?

Would like to hear some tips/comments on how to do Night Photography.

Hi Teerex,

You are no Noob in photography. :bsmilie:
Just some comments for discussion. :)
#1 looks a bit soft, possible camera/handshake
#2 looks better, like the White Balance setting. I presume Auto White Balance. :)

Tripod is a must for Night Photography and use F/8 aperture.

Bro, you know me lah. Too lazy to carry tripod one. They both look like got handshake :sweatsm:

Yes, WB was at Auto. Both shots were at F/8. #! 1/3sec, #2 1sec. ISO 1600.

wa, it's not bad what
#1 def got handshake, not so obvious in #2
diff people got diff preference, i like putting small aperture f/8 (that's all i have anw, no dslr)
and long exposure, 8 seconds and above
def need base or tripod, use remote or timer to minimise hand shake
you can always er, use tables, ground as makeshift tripod.. that's what i did last time.. hehe

I have a bean bag in my camera bag most of the time where I will use to support the camera. But this location, placement of the bean bag was not possible.

In #1, I rested my right elbow on the second rail and my left armpit on the top rail for support.

In #2, Both my armpits were on the top rail for support.

I prefer shooting landscape day or night at f/8 to get a better DOF.

Haha, from Esplanade there right..
Recognise the vantage point
I know what you mean, Nicoll Highway area is pretty good for no tripod night shots though, there's solid railings everywhere.. Esplanade railing is too rounded.. =D

Yeah, small aperture also gives you starburst effect at night (when combined with long exposure).. =D

1/3 sec and 1 sec without tripod.
Really steady.
Must find a night and ask Dennis and the rest out for a night shoot too.

hi teerex! i don't think you are a noob anymore!! ;)

i guess you had to boost your ISO to 1600 since you didn't have a tripod. better if you set your ISO to the lowest possible setting. :) noise is very visible on the first photo while the 2nd photo is underexposed in my opinion.

i do have some night shots around singapore too! :)

I think I will use this settings :bsmilie: ISO 200 F8 3min exposeure with my ND400 filter and a tripod.

it's too dark. shoot when the sky is brighter. i can't even make out the shapes of the buildings for #2.

Teerex, have you tried taking around 7+pm?

I think the sky will look better, more beautiful, especially when the sun just about to set down...
