[nitewalk] APWP 2013

13.5.13

Exploration of Tuas South. Found this empty patch which has a look of desolation and emptiness which bring out the concept I had in mind. I wanted to portray Tuas aside from the normal perception of factories after factories, which after a short drive about was my own perception of it as well. Finally found this spot and it lends itself well to an IR treatment than a coloured or normal B&W treatment.

Taken on Pentax K5+Sigma 10-20+Hoya R72 for 41 seconds.

14.5.13

Taken on Pentax K5+Sigma 10-20 and manually blended a few exposures during the sunset yesterday

18.5.13

Taken on TS-E17 during this morning sunrise shoot, with minor tonal and contrast adjustments using a single exposure. I have done the reflection of MBS a few times and this time I decided to get up very early and shoot this. As much as a faux reflection is possible, this is the result of very calm water, where I could push the shutter speed longer, i.e. 30sec, yet still managing to get a clear reflection.

20.5.13

Reshooting this again and thinking about how else I can do this, I tried to reshoot at an even earlier timing to see what I could get. I realise this allows me to push a far more abstract look at it and the sun just happened to be behind the top of one of the columns allowing me to leave the corridors in shadows to emphasise the relationship between the lines and playing with the shadows and highlights of the scene.

26.5.13

Finally went to this popular place on a day when the Sun was setting in the direction where block 208 is pointing. Single frame and manually blended taken on Pentax K5+Sigma 10-20.

2.6.13

An on-going project to document the architecture in the last kampong in mainland Singapore. The only house which can be captured in the afternoon light whereas the rest were more suited for a morning capture.

Handheld shot taken on TS-E 17mm and some minor tonal adjustment.

6.6.13

This is a vertorama image of 3 frames with 5 exposures each for the top two frames and 2 exposures for the bottom frame, manually blended and stitched. The rain last night was perhaps an indication of the things to come and I had to run through 2 dogs who tried to chew a chunk off my leg but only could eat my dust.

9.6.13

The cloud was actually due to the fireworks from the DBS event several weeks ago. I think this is a decent place to take the laser show apart from the usual places. Will revisit some other day.

12.6.13

Shot on Pentax K-01+Sigma 10-20 on 12/6/13. Found back my love for using the Pentax setup and technicalities aside, I do like this handy body a lot. The lack of viewfinder doesn't affect me the least bit as I realise I don't even use the viewfinder of the OMD when I had that. I guess my usage of the tilt-shift lens made me much more comfortable using live view. The colours and dynamic range did not disappoint. On the ground, you probably can't tell the difference in dynamic range between 5d2, K5 and K-01. I could feel the difference in terms of my bracketing and my thought process being affected by it, but this time round, it does feel closer to the K5.

14.6.13

Taken on Pentax K-01+Samyang 8mm

Finally gave in to temptations and got a fisheye and absolutely love the price to performance and build of this little gem! The changing of aperture reminded me of old lenses and it is a neat little lens which sits well in my bag. The image quality is satisfying so I will be having some fun with this lens in time to come!

Saw the haze last night and saw an opportunity for this, which I felt was a good thing because the sky was otherwise cloudless and the haze might have made it easier for me to control the exposure. Didn't do the shot I envisioned as I ran around like an excited little boy with his new toy so forgot to take the shot I wanted.
