Just like many other country(like UK, Australia & etc.) that electronic items do not sell at a cheaper price than here in Singapore. For example, you mentioned the brand new Nikkor AF 50mm f/1.4D lens(I presumed) is not more than S$460(I think) here which includes GST too.

I think if Singapore is selling at the conversion price that you mentioned above is pretty OK if this lens can cover from 26-83mm(on digital camera) & have a constant f/2.8 aperture(just my point of view only).
