wow, the fungus so pretty ar? Maybe u grow more then can cook to eat lo. Hehe, anyway i just bought the dry cabinet AD60. I saw there's DHC series, what is hygrometer? Is it the one for adjusting the humidity %? Coz i see mine, only can set to HI, A, B, C, LO. But from http://www.digihub.com.sg/userguide.htm , it mention setting for C is 25-35%, i guess maybe i should set it above C abit right? Too bad my dealer here no DHC60 or 80, else i will pay more to get it.........

Find a setting which give you about 45-50%.

Yeah.. the fungus is pretty but it's pretty permanent as well.. Once it grows, even if you send for cleaning, it has already permanently scarred the coating on the glass.

hmm.... this give me an idea to do something creative, i shall find myself 6 small pieces of glasses, then moist it then put aside, wait it grow fungus then take some pic of it, lol.

Oh ya, before i forgotten, should i remove all memory card, neck strap, battery before i put my lenses and cam inside the cabin? thx

Think there's no choice but to get it service... You can buy a big dry cabinet with the damage you spend at NSC. Ouch...

:bigeyes::bigeyes:
don't scare people la. I've never seen a case where the fungus is so bad it makes the image soft.
don't say it unless you're sure. you might scare the hell out of innocent people.
hehe...

if you indeed have such experience, i think then your lens must be growing mushrooms, not fungus.

Got, got... my ancient Canon 28-80mm zoom.. didn't bother with it since i switched to Nikon.. that day I took it out, it could barely AUTOFOCUS and exposure time was almost 1/3rd more than what it should have been on a clean lens ;p

Make sure you don't put that with your other lens

Actually, you don't need to do that

Wah, you still put it with your nikon stuff. High risk leh

Get a Carl Zeiss ZF 85/1.4.. It's more exciting. ;p

Thanks for the inputs. So looks like if its a real bad case of fungus affecting a few elements and if it has been there for some time then it may not be worth to service it. Like some of you said, the fungus may have 'eaten' into the coatings, so even if really cleaned them, the coatings may also be gone then I guess the quality of the lens is compromised too.

Any further inputs or comments?

Haha. didn't mean to scare the TS.
i just used my friends lens with heavy fungus.
here's how it looks like.

:o

Wahlaoeh that's it.. I'm putting my cam & lens in dry box ALWAYS after use.

I don't think the fungus took days to grow,
i think you need to not use/touch the lens for months for it to be that bad.
So a few days out of the dry box should be ok. :)

Prevention is still the best cure.
But if your lens is infected by fungus, you can consider having it cleaned.

just curious, won't the fungus "eat" into the glass?

Best way is to prevent fungus from growing in the first place. Just like living in singapore, take care of your own health because no other people will. If you are ill, god bless you.

Yap I'm curious too. If its a bad case of fungus, will it 'eat' into the coatings on the lens elements? And if can thoroughly be cleaned, will it scrap off the coatings too?
