What's the cheapest nikon now and what is the price? 1299 does seem a little more than I thought :P

saw the newspaper today. Its up at the price of $1299.. Hmm seems like an entry level price?

HN, Courts are selling in retail prices. Try to check the price at the recommended shops here (AP, MS, J316, TCW, CP) as their prices will be cheaper by 100-200.

Hey thanks for the info! Will check out the price from those shops. ;)

Care to elaborate why?

It allows you to hold the camera with boths hands. It will be hard to do it with a side hinge. A side hinge is good for light setups only, aka compact cameras.

Was just reading the review by dpreview, and it highlighted that if tripod mounted, you might not be able to move the swivel LCD. Anyone tried it?

Only got kit lens set, body not sold separately.....:cry:

Anyone can double confirm this? I just came back from MS...

has not been following....am wondering if D5000 has in built motor??thanks...

For above the head shots, with side hinge, we simply hold on to the screen itself. This SLR isn't a heavy cam.

With the bottom hinge, angles are more limited as you have no other option. The both hands thing has a workaround, but not the side hinge.

yep. you can lower it a bit, but can't really turn it left or right.

but i guess it's on the size of ur tripod plate and tripod head, i guess. those el-cheapo, $20 tripod, i think you can swivel it. i dun have one at hand now to test...

Thanks, looks like the swivel screen would still be fully turned on a cheap aluminum tripod. That should please the casual photographers, who normally don't use pan/tilt/ballhead anyway. :)

I think it's a good idea. Using live-view, in awkward positions, you won't be holding the camera to your eye. It's more likely that you'll hold with 2 hands, or on either side of the camera.

Side hinge would mean you can't hold it on the left-hand side.
