The reason why people often recommend the lower end DSLRs to newbies are because
1) They are lighter (more friendly to those used to PnS)
2) Cheaper, in case you decide not to pursue this hobby further it would cost you less loss
If you're ok with the weight and handling and got the money to burn then go for it
