Hi

Can someone advise is there a Nikon remote control shuttle release for D80?
If yes may I know how much is one such device and which/where shop I can get one.

Thanks.

Help / Advice appreciated

yes there are

Remote Control MC-DC1

List price: Price: SGD$40.82

and

Wireless Remote Control ML-L3

List price: Price: SGD$16.33

MC-DC1 gives you a good deal more precision ( a very very slight lag ) over the shutter control compared to the ML-L3. Sometimes the IR might not be aligned and you spend some time fumbling over the line of sight and missing the shot.

Of course if you want remote control over a longer distance, the wireless ML-L3 is a better bet.

does the MC-DC1 allow 'bulb' mode?
I can't remember if the ML-L3 does or not.

Both can.
For the ML-L3 you gotta press the button once for the shutter to open, and press the second time for the shutter to close. Just make sure the remote is close to the camera if you wanna time it nicely.

The MC-DC1 has a slide lock to depress the button so you will not have to standby and press for long exposures. You gotta release the lock to close the shutter.

Dun forget wireless triggers not only D80 but most nikonz..... so ML-L3 not for events like shooting fireworks !!!!
Unless u are the only one using wireless remote that day .. heeeheee

Just extra infor...

That D80 Cable realease MC DC1 can be used for D300, as I'm going to upgrade to D300? Thanks u v m in advance!

I think you might have to get the MC-30 / 36 for your D300. The connection is different ( 10 pin for D300 vs 4 pin connection for D80. ) No experience with D300. Anyone pls correct if i am mistaken.

It should not unless they have switched on their remote control option (usually not the case)

Btw, if you don't mind not getting the original, the Chinese-clone version of the wireless remote which you can get online is only ard S$5-S$10.

it need direct line of sight to work, so unless the other photographer is in front of your camera, it should not trigger your camera

Thanks again, Ryan! I thought I can use this for D300 as well. Now ve to buy again!

thanks for all the feedback.

I have one silly question, the above 2 models, does my D80 auto-focus then fire the shot when I press the remote button? OR i have to set my D80 to manual mode and then focus my subject then fire the shot via the remote?

The MC-DC1 can half press for AF, a full depress to take the shot.

The ML-L3 cannot do half press. The moment you activate the IR, the camera does a quick AF and snaps.

Went for a photoshoot recently and did an experiment, 4 Nikons placed near each other, all remote turned on, and with a ML-L3 in front of them, when press the button 90% of the time 3 Nikons will trigger.

how often do you position ur remote towards all the front of the 4 cam? normally most ppl will held it by the side near the grip... I have been shooting quite a number of times side by side with many nikon user using the same remote during fireworks, we got no problem unless some1 purposely went to point at other camera

Like I said, it was an experiment and it shows that a single trigger can set off multiple cameras if all cameras are receptive of the remote control's signals.
