In Angsana plaza, there are about 4 camera stores there. Go to each of them and ask for quotes. That's what I did before I buy. But JB prices are almost always more expensive than KL, that's my experience.

Never encounter such thing. Have bought two lenses from JB(RM4700 + RM4900) few weeks ago. I went there by bus, all my things were scanned through in the custom but nothing happened.

You never encountered does not mean that you are immune to GST. Just lucky I guess, travelling through airport I guess has lesser chance to get hit by GST.

Yeah you are right. But I think to be fair they should keep the same treatment for people travelling via JB-Spore custom and Changi Airport.

Just throw away the box and dump the rest of the stuff in your camera bag. Nobody will know its brand new. I have done it before. Dont need pay GST.

for info, my friend who is in penang now told me that the price of a d700 costs rm 6000 if paid by cash.
anyone has any idea on the lowest price in Sg?

Gst is already 7% more. Plus higher rental and overheads. And higher port clearing costs transportation costs etc. Distributor in SG have to charge higher also.
