Yes, performance is on par with the D90, just tested out at home with the D90 the other day, impressive Noise control.

the focus point was not on the LED screen
and i believe that what you see is the screen and not noise and/or jpeg compression
look at the oof area just left of the 2

Hi, thanks for the post, but I have some difficulty trying to compare the noise performance vs the D90/D300. If I may say so, your subject (car dashboard) makes an evaluation difficult. Either the instruments are brightly lighted up, or the plastic is completely dark -- not much avenues for noise to show up. As you yourself mentioned, noise is evident in the OOF area on the left (more midtone). Perhaps you can shoot a simple picture (eg, bookshelf under flourescent light) where there're more midtones and shadow areas...

Just a suggestion. :)

Wow nice noise control better then d40 .My d40 at 3200 the noise is unacceptable for me but the d5000 is still usable for me

colours are straight out of the D5000

Definitely usable ISO1600! ... though the colour is a little too vivid for me!
Impressive tests!

oUcH !!! ... very impressive I must say.
Even at higher ISO's, to me, its acceptable.
Eventhough this camera meant for starters or amatures,
I think PROS also wanna get this as a main/backup camera ...

Great and very affordable camera and very nice pictures.
Thanks 0rtega

i still have more images sitting on my hdd at home, will look through and post over the weekend

more of the lens tests, sadly i did not have time to do the CA tests

definitely use-able up to ISO 3200 personally.
if only they come in compact camera body. :)

this one my guess would be akan datang

the technology will trickle down to the new breed of prosumers with DX sensors
(this is just my prediction, i have no special industry information whatsoever)

The temple photos are nice. Convinced about the usability in the higher ISO range. Just a question: what was the shutter speed for pic#2? Handheld at f3.5?

i believe the exif data is still intact, and yes hand held
