such filter is a cheap way to prevent any lens damage, you rather the filter goyak then the lens being damaged

It do affect the quality of ur pics, depending on the type u use, there are cheap ones from $10 onwards to over $100..:)

Count me in ;) just realize we have exactly the same setup (body and lens) and I think my next buy is going to be a remote release :bsmilie:

cos maybe i still new to it still not used to it.. wat is the pro n con for getting 18-200?

btw is not a must be get same brand of lens or speedlight with nikon right?

Regarding lens, you should get better QC with Nikkor lenses; don't have to worry about back-focusing issue, etc. Especially another newbie like me, or someone who cannot focus manually like me (also), will be difficult to know what problems to look out for which you will have to if you're getting third party lenses. Nikkor lenses are more well known for getting a good copy almost all the time whereas there is a slim possibility of a lemon with third party.

The bigger your zoom range, the more susceptible it is to distortion (barrel or pincushion) and are generally heavier. Still, I love my 18-105mm a lot because it gives me the option to walk around without having to change lenses (mine is not so much from fear, than it is on the inconvenience - I hardly use my 55-200mm because I don't like to be stuck at 55mm if I suddenly want to take a scene). I did consider 18-200mm but I think I can do without the zoom unless I'm heading to a sporting event (in which case I'll just stick my 55-200mm in) plus price is also a lot higher - you can get 18-105mm for $300 plus thereabouts in BnS.

yupz it is a good use esp on tripods...taking night pics...:P

hope u dun mind me saying and I am not trying to flame you. just wanna share some knowledge I learn from CS forum.

Nikkor lens also will have a possibility of a lemon, u can check out the thread on nikkor 18-200 vr lens, and it affect only the make in japan batch, which everyone tot make in japan is suppose to be zero defect.

3rd party lens exist for a reason, they are not only cheaper than nikkor, their build quality is also comparable.
in order to know if a lens is ok or not, just google for it and you can find out lots of info and review. do you homework before purchasing the lens.

I just brought a tamron 90mm Macro lens, its super sharp, produce smooth bokeh, and some review even comments that this lens is "TOO SHARP" in a positive way. and its only 2/3 of the prices to nikkor.

Read up before we rule out the possibilities. or you are closing your door to a world of infinite opportunities. D5k already have very limited lens available, dun further reduce it.

u are getting the one with wire or wireless type?

those wireless very cheap lah...a 3rdparty one cost less than $10...and it work as good as original...dun need to think too hard to get that lah......;);)

Hope you read what I said also ;)

"almost all the time" doesn't mean all the time.
"slim possibility of a lemon" doesn't mean all the time also.

But do correct me if you do think that it is more likely to get a lemon from Nikkor lens than a third party lens. Otherwise I don't like my words being taken out of context :)

I'm sure you are an experience photographer who knows how to tell a lemon when you see one; unfortunately (as stated in my post), I don't. That's the point of view where I am coming from.

wah bro BBB ar.... hehehehe

neways in regards to what was discuss above, always check before buying, do some research to the items u wanna buy, find out what problem that may occur , if still not sure of the condition/quality ask for another, if not juz walk away, and find another....:)

I just got my D5000 (my first DSLR) and was playing arn with the movie recording function. The zoom locked during recording, which was expected. The problem is I can't turn the zoom ring after I stopped recording.

It unlocked by itself but that's after quite some time. Anyone with a similar problem or any advice on how I can go about fixing this problem? Was searching the manual and the Internet but no answers there. :(

Thanks a lot.
