Noise? I don't see any noise problem.

i think i'm refering to the sharpness n the resolution as its not very sharp and define.

Sorry bout the noise problem.i wanna obtain higher clarity.

Your pictures are sharp. The problem that may be making you think your pictures are not sharp is that you chose a very bad location to take the fireworks. Why? One word - Smoke.

And you did not get the full view and in the end have to include part of the balcony and a person's head into most of the shots.

So, your camera and your lens are both fine. You have to rethink your approach when taking a picture. There should be a thought process that you need to have every time you approach the shot. Is this the best location? What might be hindering the shot I want? Will I get blocked? Am I too close? WIll there be smoke? You should have asked yourself these questions before you setup your tripod there.

It takes planning to get good fireworks shoot location. This might be a better vantage point.

seriously hope u dun mind...the "head" kill the whole pic...try to crop it away...

actually make some effort to recce the place a few time...snap some shot during the recce and study it at home...
try to make a "clean" composition, meaning ONLY the subject can appear in your pic..

was kinda tired and wanted to post the photos asap. Would do a better job next time to process the photos.

Cheers

agreed!! taking fireworks is a challenge, the direction of the wind plays a very important part, time-factor (shots before and after the fireworks), all this sure "calcuate" to your "clarity" of your pics...:)

Hi

I got my D5000 last year nov and got a 18-55 & 55-200. Is it wise to get 18-200 instead cos scare changing of lens might have some problem..

well, it will be better with 18-200mm since it reduces the hassle of changing lenses

"Better" is very dependent on what your better is supposed to mean. There are pros and cons to each approach.

And Dajiahao, if you are very scared to change lenses, why get a DSLR in the first place? You might be more comfortable with a prosumer super zoom.

ya true enuf, but in his case, he got a problem with changing lenses.

And i do agree with you on 1 point tho... as to y he gets a dslr when there's a fear in changing lenses frequently

I am a superzoom user. There are times when you need to change lens and times when changing lenses can cause you to miss a critical moment. You'll have to weigh the pros and cons in the situation of your shoot. That is the versatility that a DSLR gives. Another advantage is the shutter lag. Not many prosumers are using DX sized sensor yet and the sensor size already give a great advantage in terms of image quality.

18-200 -
Pros - good for travelling photography to those sandy area....I personally own 1 since day1 I got D5k. got it simply I am those lazy to change lens type. and also I upgrade from a superzoom prosumer cam, so kind of used to NOT change lens.
Cons - at the far end the IQ is abit soft...but at 18-80 range...the IQ is good.

but no regrets ..I can live with soft IQ...cos during travel that time, its more impt to capture that "moment" than to miss it bcos u have to change lens. I prefer to enjoy the trip than have to keep on thinking to change lens.

How often do you use the 55-200?

You may want to consider 16-85mm as your walkabout lens.
I find it sharper than 18-200 and 16mm advantage for me wins over the 200mm loss.

Very valid points. But Dajiahao has this morbid fear of changing lenses, that in itself will take away a lot of the versatility of owning a DSLR. Speaking of APS-C sensors in prosumer... this is one down memory lane: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonydscr1/. I actually tried that monster once, and the pictures were amazing good. And dpreview said
Add to that the usable high sensitivities, great build quality, a package which is 'all in one', resolution just better than an EOS 350D and final results which can be extremely good indeed.

Hi,
How’s much is the 16-85mm zoom lens? Is it fully compatible with D5000?
Thanks!

sure AF-S model all are compatible for non built-in body motor.

if you don't mind it's used copy, buy/sell is around $750~800 +/-.

cause it have a VRII can be shoot at lowlight for 1/15~30s for 4 stop VR fuction.
without any out of focus.
