Hi i'm a beginner,need some help here.
Can d5000 use the AF-S DX 18-200/3.5-5.6 ED VR II LENS?
if not what's the best lens that can compare similar to the above?:sticktong:sticktong

actually this is a good qns....all digital pic have gone thru some sort of PP within the digital camera...some cam can PP "more"...some just norm PP. its only when u shoot in RAW....the pic is consider "RAW", means no PP at all.

but u can set the saturation in D5k also....most PnS cannot ....
Hi,
I’m new to RAW since D5000 is my 1st DSLR.
I noticed RAW takes up almost 100% more memory space than JPG of the same photo. Seems like no quality difference between RAW & JPG of the same photo.
I also noticed whatever I set on my camera (like Active D-lighting, saturation to +2, sharpening to 5…etc), it applies to both RAW & JPG.
So at this point, I don’t know how I can work with RAW.
Any guidance?
Thanks!

you have to learn how to use those raw processing software like Aperture and Lightroom.

Give you an example, a image you shot is underexposed.

in Jpg, it is possible to bring up the black area but you find the quality is lost.

In raw, you can bring up the under exposed area without a problem, because although you see it under exposed, but the information, the details are still there, you just make some adjustment to bring it out.

So it is worth you shoot at raw although it takes more space in your memory card.

yes the d5000 can use all lens that is AF-S or DX

hmmm for something with 11x zoom, if you're looking for something comparable can try 3rd party 18-200 lens? i'm not sure about 3rd party terminology but you got to see which lens has got the internal motor on the lens that will allow it to autofocus.. correct me if i'm wrong but for example Sigma you need to get a lens which has the HSM tag in its name... does tamron have an 18-200?

just to share, for myself i got myself a 2nd hand 18-70mm DX 3.5-4.5... second hand off the nikon selling section... satisfied with it so far especially since its brighter at 4.5 compared to other lens at 5.6 ... no VR though!

would anyone recommend the D90 kit lens as upgrade to the 18-55? ;)

DX= Digital format, not ALL DX lens can auto focus on D5k, u need to look at Nikkor AF-S or AF-I lens to autofocus on D5k.
check out below site, it will tell u what the "other" nikkor lens limitation on D5k, still can use, but mostly cannot autofocus or metering. in fact the user manual already have a lists. Most info can be found there.

for 18-200, you can also get sigma 18-200 OS HSM, it cost almost half of Nikkor lens price. there is also a Sigma 18-200 NON-HSM model which cannot autofocus on D5k.
google for Sigma OS and HSM and you will know what these 2 acronyms means.

Hi all,
Asking for opinion, which is the better method?
Switch to monochrome mode on the camera & shoot black/white OR shoot as usual in color & then convert it to black/white using software editing tool?
Thanks!

as for me i shoot straight in monochrome rather than convert later... think its a matter of preference... hope this helps, cant get into technical details, scared later too many BS... :bsmilie:

juz my 2 cents

Holding a D5k here, newbie too.

wondering if Tamron AF18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC can support the D5k or not?

Hi Guys,

Im new in the community and a newbie as well, bought my Nikon D5000 last 3 weeks ago and would luv to learn from you guys specially on Post Processing Technique, Filters, Flash photography. etc.

and probably go out for a shoot someday.

Also, what happened to the old thread Nikon D5000 user come on in?

Cheers!

Personally, I use JPG just for simple photos like family events, snapshots and no extensive PP and I use RAW for photos that I know I will put extensive work on PP so I have much more control over post processing.
