Hi all,
Probably most of u all already know it by now, I just want to say about D5000 shooting in movie mode.
I think shooting can begin even the scene is not in focus.
Since there’s no auto focus available during shooting, I refer to set the lens to M right from the beginning (before starting the shoot). This way I don’t have to switch to M (on the lens) during mid-way of the shooting, I can concentrate on the framing.
Got a question, are the white balance, active D-lighting & other settings have an impact on the video shootings?
Thanks!

bro...to be frank..if you wanna video shoot...get a camcorder....tried using a few time...find it a total useless function....

hi liulangMAo, the video is not useless, in fact, coupled with the flip lcd i find it very very handy and powerful tool (note that with dslr you are able to change lens thus video possibilities are endless). i attended a friend's wedding and brought only the d5000 and only 1 lens, the 35mm f1.8 af-s, i was able to shoot both video and pictures without worrying about switching gadgets, or lens..i managed to be creative using the manual focus and video settings like black and white etc.., the effects you will see can only be achieved with a sensor size as big as this, camcorders can't do this "hollywood effect" style because of their tiny sensor..you can observe how i transition the depth of fields between subjects, the flip lcd's most useful function is when taking the video, i mostly took my shots at waist or chest level, this is the final product, :

make sure to watch in HD! ;-)

Hi,
Nice video. I guess the lack of auto focus in the video shooting mode does provide creative playing in the depth of field.

Got another question, the video shot is in AVI format, when playback on my laptop using the media classic player, I found the video jerky not smooth, anything wrong?
Thanks!

hi just to check something. the last time I shoot was 4 yrs back with film cam. Now I'm looking to get a DSLR. Just to check those lens I use on film camera, can it be used in D5000? If so, then i'll stick back to Nikon. :)

thanks!! video will not play smoothly on a laptop if you have shared video card because it is high def, sometimes the audio and video are even out of synch..it plays smoothly on my desktop though because i have a dedicated video card..you can convert it using movie maker or any other video editing software to make the file smaller so that it is playable in your laptop..

but if you're talking about the "jelly effect" brought about by the rolling shutter motion, then you can't do anything about it, that's how the d5000 and d90 records video, you can minimize it though by moving your camera sideways slowly..

hi e69087, if you have a lens that has manual focus override (like the 35mm f1.8 af-s or the 18-105 af-s), you don't need to worry about switching to M, there's an M/A switch that will let you autofocus but can let you manual focus override any time :D but if i use the kit lens, then i use that technique also, i begin with manual focus already because switching it during shooting jerks off the camera and ruins the video :(

i think it's the trend nowadays, newer models keep improving the video function, i guess it's because of the sensor size and the ability to change lens, i know of professional wedding videographers that are actually using and recommending the canon 5D mark II for video use on wedding events because of its large sensor. it is capable of shooting at low lights and can also have that shallow DOF effect..

unless your lens have build in motor. or rather start with AF-S AF-I....or else these lens can only manual focus on D5k.....
