thinking of getting one but my pro friends said if i am really serious in photography, then i shld get the D300. They said D5000 shutter speed is very slow compared to D300 becos it have a live view. Anyone got any feedback on this?

D300 does have a live view too, i guess what he meant was the shutter release. comparing a d5000 1/125 and D300 1/125 it does sound different as if the d5000 had some shutter lag.

then 35mm would be good, it be close to a 50mm on crop bodies unless you are taking tele shots

Well, any recommendation for 3rd Party Battery Grips ? This is my first DSLR so like blur blur with all these matters Haha..

Currently still using kit lens but like at my limit liao, planning to get a 50mm f1.8 next.

SB400, 600, 800(provided you can find it new), 900 would be good for the D5k, but 600 would be much recommanded due to size and flexibility of the flash.

be reminded if i am not wrong 3rd party grips are triggered by IR instead of direct pin connections.

Hello all,

A newbie here and i am going to get my D5000 this wkend. I been checking out some of the places and their price and it all seems the price is around $1299 but some give more freebies. One place which give abit more is audio house@Liang Court. With $1299 you get

1. D5000 body
2. kit lens - 18-55mm VR
3. Dry box
4. 8gb SD card
5. Tripod
6. Cleaning Kit
7.Screen protector
8. Extra Battery
9.usb card reader

I know freebies are of low quality but i really broke liao so these i will use for a while. What do you guys think ? Is it a good offer?

so for another 165....u will get the below freebies , lets add up how much these freebies can cost if we were to get it within the same building from diff shop:


3. Dry box,- how big is this?...is it just a box(not powered by electricity), not the dry cabinet?...this will easily cost less than ~$30.
4. 8gb SD card, ~25
5. Tripod, this is tricky....can range from 15~few hundreds, but my guess is that the shop will give u a $25 bucks tripod, seriously....i think can forget it...cos I own one before...bring out 2~3time nia...the screw totally wasted....
6. Cleaning Kit - ~10
7.Screen protector ~ DIY from daiso...2
8. Extra Battery ~ original or cheong one? ...my guess is cheong one...so shd be abt 30~40
9.usb card reader ~ 5

so all in all....30+25+25+10+2+40+5 = 137...u r being ripe off $28....
get it from shop that dun give freebies is a better deal.. just walk around SLS...and U can get same things with less money.

That is correct and in the end. I got it at AP at $1199 with freebies = nikon SL 168 tripod, 8G SD card and a camera bag.
