Nikon D5000 come on in

i'm curious why Nikon chose a different type of socket for the D5000.
The D90 still uses the same common mini-USB socket as my D80.
Does this socket have a dual purpose?

mayb there's a difference in speed when u transfer photos? that's my guess only.

Hi D5000 owners,
Need to check with you guys whether you have a thin black line running down your viewfinder when the center active focus area is lit up. The thin line follows the focus point when it is moved about (eg. among the 11-pts). I've researched on the web and although Nikon says this is normal operation, I didn't notice the line when I first got the camera. Although it doesn't affect operation it is fairly distracting and I'll probably bring it in to get it fixed. Just wanted to check with fellow D5k owners whether it's originally there?

Just an example. Take note of thin fine line off-centre above the top focus point.

It may not be an abnormaly, but if it wasn't there when I bought the camera and now it appears, I have a case? Just wanted to check.

you are not the first one worrying about this too much.
it's normal. it's for the on-demand grid lines display.
turn off the camera and you won't see it.

Any problem, Please share here what your problem.:)

am wondering if there will be an outing for us D5000 users....

so far, so good. still getting the hang of a DSLR. :bsmilie: still learning and i won't know if there's a problem till someone mention it here. :) may i know how to upload photos to this forum? pls n thx in advanced!

there's a sticky on that.
Clubsnap doesn't give much server space for uploading photos to its servers.
Best to use a photo-hosting site like flickr, photobucket, etc.

When you post under 'advanced' mode, there's a little button for 'insert image' or something like that. Copy the URL of the image you want to insert.
That's more or less what you need to do. Use the Garbage/testing sub-forum to try it out first.

Here are two pictures taken at the extreme ends of the camera's ISO range. Both were with the Tokina 1116mm which does not auto focus on the D5000. I had no difficulties focusing as the focal range is limited.

ISO200, f/22, 1/125s

ISO6400, f/13, 1/60s

I think ISO6400 is pushing it. Seems OK at 3200.

this is jus my personal opinion and im not representing anyone in this forum to speak. im not sure of the camera technically. but what i do know the diff between nikon and canon lenses is nikon using glass lens as compared to canon using plastics. glass is harder to scratch as compared to plastics. ;) i bot this cos i was comparing prices over 500d n d5000 til i get the facts right n i buy without regrets till now. :p hope u get it n join us here! ;)

You are mis-informed.
I'm pretty sure that Canon lenses are also made of glass, even their kit lenses.
MOST DEFINITELY the Canon L lenses are made of glass! :)

The weight difference between the high end lenses and the cheaper kit lenses is usually due to the body being made of metal instead of plastic.
