what other lens should I get?
i love taking photos of my 9 mths old boy!

already bought a nikkor prime lens.

What prime lens do you have? Since you've a prime lens & a the kit lens should be good enough to take photos of your 9mths old boy.

You bought it last March? How can that be, D5000 was announce in early April. Is there typo error?

Let me guess, some people do refer to the March that just gone by as last March although most of us would assume that is Mar 2008. My wife, for eg, at this point of time, will refer to May 2009 as last May, simply because it has gone by already.:D

.

just got mine last Saturday. Took the Kit lens home but find the zoom too small, so went back and change to the 18-105 kit. The build of the lens is defintely much better. although feeling the weight of it

D5000 now comes in 2 packages, the 18-55 mm and the 18-105 mm. I got the 18-105 mm package at 1410 inclusive of GST.

Bought 2 weeks ago... 1st DSLR. Paired it with kit 18-55mm and a Tamron 90mm for macro (though my macro still sucks >.<").

I got it from TK foto, just surprised that whenever recommendation of shops were given here, this shop does not always get mentioning. Really friendly shop, no pressure and no pushy sales. Even admitted to me that the free tripod is a dodggy little one that holds nothing except the cam with the 18-55 mm lens.:bsmilie: He even tested the cam for me before handling over to me. Went to AP the previous day, the sales there just took out the cam body from the box and handed over to me without even fixing up the lens......Duh:bsmilie:

MS Color... I can't remember the exact details but its around 530 to 550 I think.

Anyway macros are fun but a bit siong. Hard to find insects at times and I do not use tripod so pictures a bit blur at times. Furthermore, it never came across to me that I can use flash to "cheat" my D5000 so that I can have faster shutter speed to maintain the same aperture at first (i sibei noob lolx). Now I learn a bit more le, so maybe this weekend I go take some more. Need more practice and hopefully I can improve. ;)

sorry to steal this thread and go a little off-topic.
I was wondering about the USB cable for D5000. From the website pics, it looks like a different plug compared with D80/D90. My D80 uses the standard mini-USB plug, like the one for Motorola phone, USB hub, Playstation 3 controller, etc.

The reason I ask is that my Friend A borrowed D5000 (+ cable, dunno why) from Friend B, and LOST the darn cable. Now he's hunting for another one as replacement. I was gonna give him a spare mini-USB cable, but saw the internet pics, and the D5000's looks different.

appreciate your help on this.

i aso agree with u that it does looks similar to the mobile phone micro usb. i dun tink it does any harm to ur camera. at most it does work. but if it works, y not? ;p later i go try then let u guys know. :)

A comparison of D80 USB port and D5000's

i'm quite sure they're different.
If my friend has to buy a replacement original Nikon USB cable UC-E6, sure damn expensive ;)

thx for the photos! initially i thot can fit, i jus tried, its totally different. think that guy either gota source for 3rd party or go for the original cable. how much does original cost? any idea? jus in case anyone here lost the cable. ;P

Disclaimer: im not cursing anyone here, in case if i lose it, can have reference.

i'm curious why Nikon chose a different type of socket for the D5000.
The D90 still uses the same common mini-USB socket as my D80.
Does this socket have a dual purpose?
