Nikon D4s thread - King of Speed has Reborn

Nikon D4s use totally redesigned sensor ? Sony have become so generous to their competitor haha?

But D4s use a new Image Processor for sure, the brand new EXPEED 4 !
Nikon sources its sensors from a variety of sources. Renesas fabricated the 12MP and 16MP FX sensor, while Toshiba has provided a 24MP sensor for one of the entry level DX models. Sony is just one of the manufacturers who fabricate sensors in Japan.

Yes. It is totally redesigned. The launch presentation explained what they did at the micro lens level, effectively increasing the microlens aperture size. This allows the sensor to be able to capture more light than before.

Who makes this new sensor, I have no idea. But Nikon sources sensors from different companies, not just Sony.

First Nikon D4s vs. D4 high ISO comparisons

Have been spotted in NikonRumors.com !
I am not sure whether CSnap staff upload to NR ? Or NR just take from our forum ?
Nevertheless, this comparison will be read worldwide. Well done ! :)

Probably someone picked up on our preview and sent the url to the Admin there.

I was off the grid for a little while. Nice to see that the Nikon D4s does generate some new paradigms, rather than just some minor upgrades.

Now, to experience it first hand before making the decision.

RAW from D4s is quite amazing. High ISO of 25600, blown highlights. After moving only 2 sliders... this is the result. My eyes nearly pop out.

ISO 25600. Converted from RAW, exposure -1.0, NR luminance +30.

And what an amazing combo with Nikkor 400mm f/2.8G VR lens

Almost no good reason for me to upgrade to the D4s from my D4. Those little bit more features better specs like slightly higher ISO or shutter speed, I have hardly venture into with my mostly non-professional serious amateur shooting. For those with the means and really serious amatuer photographer will be more then happy to save their money and get the D4 or even the Df.

Another video for Nikon D4s shutter at 11 fps.

Nikon D4s is the real KING OF SPEED !!

Canon 1DX does 14 fps... so what King of Speed are you talking about? Or are you stating that it is the fastest in the entire range of Nikon Camera Only bodies comparison?

Well, in a way I do agree with you. I was prepared to dump mine if the D4S came with dual CF slots or dual XQD slots. Apparently, they didn't.

The bright day shot at 25,600 looks exactly like what I get on 12,800 on a room light environment.

The hi-ISO at 25,600 is pretty clean, but not without trade-offs, the details are severely gone because of the algorithm and noise reduction.

The buffs provided doesn't quite lure any D4 users to it. Unless one really needs one, don't see the need to jump.

11fps is like, wow, but that's just 11 wasted shots if one cannot use it properly.

Photos like these at such high ISO are really meant for say 4-5R photos where sharpness is not a requirement. Weddings... gigs... that sort of thing...

This is not a widely reported feature, but in the D4s launch, it is mentioned that in Live View mode with mirror lockup, D4s is capable of 15 fps (If I did not hear wrong). It was a like a passing mention, and the presenter did not go into details on this.

Canon's 1DX 14fps is also in mirror lock up mode.
