Maybe should have change the thread name to "Lenses that are able to AF with D40/X, D60" so people wont get the wrong idea about other lenses wont be able to use it at all.

Is there a need for this thread at all? It can be summarised in 3 statements:

1. Nikkor AF-S lens
2. Sigma HSM lens
3. Tamron lens with built-in motor, eg. Tamron 17-50 (A16NII), etc

no price.... hard to know which to buy

I made this thread so that people will easily browse and know all the lenses that will auto focus on the said Cameras as of now. If this thread doesnt help you at all, it's fine but i know there are others who will appreciate my effort.

good job TS, im sure the relevant camera users will find it very informative!

of cos mah...you D300 user care so much for what?
since you already spilt the correct parts up, dont you see doing a list like TS...come on lah dont talk cheaply.
sound like those typical canon L-lens users...
this thread is going to help those rookies going for the D60, if they find it hard to find the info required on the net or on dpreview/imaging resource/photozone.

Are there any Tokina lens that can be used with AF on a D40x?

hi... good effort from TS... appreciate it.. cos recommending the above camera systems to photography starters... at least now with the list, i am also able to support the claims of good beginner bodies with high compatibility lenses available... no short of quality lenses there.. thanks!

for your info, i was an ex-D40 user, who bought the D40 when it first came out.

this list is abt as useful as a list for "which lens can be used with a nikon cam" and proceeds to list down every lens in the market with F mount, regardless of brand, from the 1950s till now.

if you find it useful, gd for you. the simple nutshell for the D40/D40X/D60 AF is ANY F-mount lens with a built-in motor, which is essentially AF-S, HSM and selected Tamrons.

ITs a great list...have been searching which lens can fit my D40X...Thks man!! Really appreciate it...:)

We can be as Pro as others too...:) I love my D40X...

good thread! up for TS.

I couldn't agree more. All these threads give a somewhat misleading impression that other lenses "don't work" on the D40, D40X and D60, and that is simply not true! Any F-mount lens will work on these cameras. The only thing you are sacrificing is the automation of the picture taking/metering. Even non-CPU lenses work, it is just more fiddling around, and after all, isn't that what some part of photography is about?!

agree with you...
TS, I appreciate your efforts to compile this list.

Just would like to add to Churchwolf's comments and vent my frustration at the increasing number of comments like "the 50mm f1.8D won't work with the D40/D40X/D60..."
The phrase "won't work" implies something very different from "no autofocus function".

up up up

The Tamron 18-200 & 18-250 can auto forcus with D40/X/D60?? the chart is confusing now..

Think a chart with fully functional lens is better instead of some half-f#$K chart..:sticktong

My suggestion is change the color of the text for those lens that can auto forcus maybe pink color... cheers

hey nakedtoes, I think you need to check your facts before confusing other users. There are versions of the two Tamrons that do AF with D40/40X/60.

To TS,
Thanks for your effort. While it's easy to say things like, any Nikkor AF-S, Tamrons with built-in motor and Sigma HSM lens can AF with D40/40X/60, a full list of AF-compatible lenses is much easier to refer to. Especially for newbies to find what options they have. I noticed that you've added prices on top of the original list. Thanks once again. I hope this becomes a sticky and you can continue to update it. (with the help of other users)
