Saw the specs on D3 and D300, impressive indeed, but not tempted. Still wait for 5D MII. :)

i think its a good thing. i read somewhere on this forum that the way canon and nikon market their good is by taking turns to launch the big boys.

So while canon launch their MkIII. nikon kept quiet. and now nikon launch their d3 canon will probably keep quiet. when they keep quiet they usually focus on the consumer products more. So at the end both company benefits from the eveness of the market and doesnt allow the competitors to rise.

Im sure canon will come out with a 5DmkII in a few mths.. but probably expect another monster from nikon next mid year too..

Base on timeline, the history will repeat.

It's an ongoing evolution ...... From Film SLR to DSLR. These manufacturers are just waiting to launch their new "enhanced" products into the market with slight upgrades from the previous models. They are product lifespan of the DSLR is so short, compared to the Film SLRs ...... sigh

well.. if the iQ at 1600 and above is good.. I'm switching.. kinda tired of Canon and their crap...

Last time there were so many discussion on APS vs FF, now all non-believer of full frame with their collection of DX lenses tio owned :D

FF is the way to go

But unlike Canon's EF-S, DX lenses fit on the D3.

Have to agree on this...

who will care, the effect on canon...

as long as, we the consumers are able to enjoy high technologies and lower prices...

haha...Horray to both Canon & Nikon...

This is good news for end-users. With stiff competition, neither Nikon nor Canon will want to price their product out of the market.

Seems like no one commented that Canon actually declared that they will regain 50% of the market.

well said!
i think just get the gear that suits you most since each brand has its strength. :)

It's the consumers who are making these demands anyway, they can make a super-mega-do-it-all-cam-that-makes-coffee with their resources, but if no one wants it, they won't sell it... Consumers always have this upgrade itch now that photography is so much easier to get into (cost and availability-wise) compared to film days... Supply and demand.

Did you guys also notice the pricing structure? None of the cams from both camps are priced near each other, as always, they're almost alternating from one another, making it even harder for direct comparison.

I think whatever the case, this 'war' between Canon and Nikon can only be good for us consumers...

As a long time Canon user, i'm actually excited about Nikon's new releases, not because I'm thinking of switching camps, but because the competition is needed for Canon not to rest on its laurels, which I felt they have been doing for a while.....

the D3 is a full frame camera that can shoot at 9fps - that's really something! :)

Forgot to add...

I'm also waiting for all the die hard "blah-who-needs-full-frame" Nikonians to do an about face and confess to actually needing / liking full frame  :bsmilie:

I love my 5D! :)

Have to agree..

Canon has been resting on its laurels too long...

HDMI on both cameras... canon? ANALOGUE ..

Let's see.. sony will also probably launch their flagship camera soon (the sensor was a hint)..

Probably they include a PSP inside as well :bsmilie:
