Nikon D2Hs vs D300

What about tiff files? Can the D300 or D3 do tiff?

No big deal but just to compare...

Can any DSLR do that currently? I thought they all had to be converted in software.

I was under the impression that TIFFs only come straight out from the MF digital backs.

The D300 can actually record images in TIFF format.

The file size is huge though, 36.5MB for a large size image.

Actually, the noise controlof D2hs is much better than the D2h.

For D2Hs, in your opinion, what is the max ISO that is usable? ISO640? ISO800?

Maybe 2500 or thereabouts? Again a lot depends on your output medium. If on the other hand the question is a D2h, then well, 640/800 is probably about the mark.

Yup, much. Which is why I'm surprised you say the D300 is better than the D2Hs...

I've got to dig out some old D2Hs files now, you've got me thinking about it. I've never actually owned one, just had one from time to time from NPS. Loved it so much more than the D2h; the less said about that the better.

I think the D300 is better than the D2x and D2h in noise. Well, maybe you will look at the type of noise produced and then I will rate the D2x as better. But even at an ISO where the D2x starts to produce significant noise, I have yet to see noise on a D300.

Just got hold of a D300 and I think the noise is not better than D2X. At most on par... I still like D2X's rendition of the image at ISO 800. Yes, beyond ISO800, D300 is slightly better but at the expense of details. Handling-wise, I still prefer D2X and D3. D300 doesn't seem to be able to give me much confidence. Certainly it's better than D200, no doubt.

I thought D2hs can only go Hi1(iso 3200) and Hi2(iso 6400) ?

Sorry for the misunderstanding that I have caused. Personlly, I did not use D300 before. But I heard from many others that its noise control is better than many other nikon cameras produced before for DX format. :)

For me, iso 1600 is very usuable. I will go up to iso 3200 if there is a need to. For D2h, the max I will go is iso 800.The noise level of iso 1600 is D2h is closed to or slightly better than D2hs 's iso 6400.

Hope this helps! :D

In addition, the colour of D2hs is much better than D2h for Tiff and Jpeg

Hmmm... I don't know.. after seeing D3, I think D300's high ISO is not as clean as I had hoped it would be.

The handling of pro bodies is really gd, especially with a 80-200 or 70-200 mounted on it!

Reading all this, I have second thoughts about getting a D300. Planned to get a D300 because of the supposed low noise character of this cam, but now... :dunno:

May I know what cam are you using now?

Got it. Thanks :D I shoot raw though, so no real relevance for me...

Yup agree with you on that one. The colour from the D2Hs is a lot better than on the D2h, imo anyway.
