Basically, from what I understand, is that the D*h series are more of a sports camera due to it's fast shutter speed, compared to the D*x series, it's more of a professional kind of camera, one that's all rounded for all kinds of shoot.

Correct me if I'm wrong :)
H for High Speed?
X for eXceptional? eXetreme? eXqusite?

Actually, the D1x and D1h have not been discontinued either; Nikon's official line is that they will continue to make the D1h as long as there is demand for it.

Like I said in another thread, the D2h really represents a very poor buy for the amateur unless it's all about an ego trip. Good camera, poor quality.

And I can certainly testify to the bugs front, like with the 70-200.

Jed, poor quality in what aspects?

i do understand the AF is damned fast though :)

And do you need the "damned fast" AF?

The chip's noisy, which I can confirm. And the colour's apparently dodgy, which I can't confirm until I get one and use it a bit.

There's a problem using NV6 or NC3 to open or read the NEF files shot with the D2H. The preview thumbnails are ok when shown in windows, but when using the nikon software to open, the program hangs.

Haven't tried with JPG's taken as is from the cam yet...

Anyone else encounter this problem? I dun think u need NC4 to open rite? As usual, only the trial version is provided. No codes...

Hi all experts,

Think "scanner" has poses a relatively good question here? D1x and D2H is kinda of different class?

Can some experts here pls enlighten us?

Thank You.

Cheers!
erm, in all honesty, i don't think D1x and D2H should be compared like that. you should be comparing D1x with D1h instead, since they are the "same generation". AFAIK, the D1x was more of a studio/fine arts type of camera, with much bigger pixelcount and more functions (such as the ability to shoot in B&W - D1H users, correct me if i wrong). D1h was the fast-action model, with faster frame-rate, bigger buffer, etc.

so the fair thing would be to compare D2H with the D2x when it's finally launched. a bit pointless to compare old tech with new tech.

To open D2H NEF files, one can use Nikon View 6.1.x, Nikon Capture 4 or Capture One DSLR.

erm, C1 DLSR doesn't support D2H NEF... not yet at least. it can only be used for D1x and D100.

What and why are there differences between the D1X/D1H/D100 NEF's compared to the D2H? Any improvements in the image itself or just so that the NC4 software can enhance the newer NEF type with better editing features?

What about reverse compatibility? This could pose a problem with users who now work with a D2H and perhaps a D1X or D100 as a backup. My guess is that NC4 and NV6.1+ can do it, but just want to be sure.

hope someone can post a review of D2H in clubsnap soon :)

Not sure if I'm correct, but the auto white balance changes the color tone even when taking a continuous burst shot of a couple of frames. Didn't notice this on my D100, since the burst can only take up to 4 NEF's, but the diff in color temp is pretty obvious on the D2H. One frame can be bluish, the very next one would be orangy. Adjusting the WB to a manual setting should prevent too much variation...

This could be a good thing, or a bad thing...

Both the D1x and D1H can shoot in B&W in all file modes except RAW NEF mode where the B&W option is disabled.

The main differences between the D1x & D1H are:

1. D1x has a larger effective pixel count - 5.33 milloin pixels compared to the D1H with 2.66 million pixels. (D2H has 4.26 million pixels)

2. D1H has a max 40 frame buffer at 5fps, The original D1x has a max 9 frame buffer at 3fps but owners can pay for a memory upgrade which increases it to max 21 frame buffer at 3fps. (D2H has a max 40 frame buffer at 8fps)

The 20% off the SRP is the "normal" practice in the market. But if it doesn't matches, it's just because of the market forces, demand > supply, or Nikon Singapore is not giving bigger margins due to new product. Morever, given the strong demand and long waiting list, it makes sense not to sell cheap, at least for now.

And I am a bit disturbed by your last sentence, why "both advised to wait till stock eases and bugs to be ironed out"?

As per any new products, there might be bugs or whatsoever, but could you substantiate your claim? Or you mean D2H is now full of bugs?

I think 20% is just a conicident for the item you have purchased. If you look thu Nikons list price and it street price. the variation is quite big.

1. F5, list price S$3688, street price S$3488.00 (5.4% off)

2. D1x, list price S$9900.00, street price S$7400.00 (25.25%off)

3. D100, list price S$3888, street price S$2700 (30.56% off)

5. AF 200mm f4 macro, List price S$2540, street price S$2150.00(15.4%)

5. Only thing close to 20% off,

AFS500mm list S$12800.00, street S$10K++
&
AFS600mm list S$17200.00, street S$13K++

So 20% can't really justified to be used as a guide line.

Regards

Vincent
