I was in Parasilk and they quote AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8G ED at $2100 before GST. Not sure it is cutting across the board.

If this is the case, and if only if they also price the D700 compatitively, there would be a long queue for this perfect combi..

No, S$ very strong these days. Not too long ago, the 24-70 mm was selling at S$2.6K, partly due to limited stock. Now I see the 24-70 lens every where. You get at around S$2,250. Early buyers always pay a premium. Good that I don't have to think of getting lens in Hong Kong anymore.

I was at John 3:16 today and the price of the 24-70 is $2260, 70-200 at $2480, and 14-24 at $23** (can't remember the exact amount). Samuel also said that Canon prices have dropped after Nikon prices drop... so ya... price war is good for consumers
