Nikon Coolpix P7000 non technical/scientific field test

Hi Bro,

Thanks for the review.
P7000 is the 1st Nikon compact which feel the image quality is really good.
Unfortunately got some issues reported by users on focusing and slow raw writing.
Hopefully Nikon could address the issues with firmware update.

I did experience some instances where there was not enough details for the af to lock on and after a few tries, the camera will re initialize the af.

I noticed that this mostly happens either in really close up or when there is not enough details for the af to lock. If I change the point of focus, it will be able to achieve focus.

had a re think about the method of the Active D-Lighting test and did another test, this time using a constant exposure with the only difference of the Active D-Lighting settings

add another close-up mode shot, this time not around my office

i went to the lobo concert and decided to see what this camera can do in demanding lighting situations
manual exposure at ISO400, i was sitting very far away from the stage, so this is at max focal length

the high iso photos look rather good. However, I do feel that default sharpening is still rather conservative as usual;p

Overall, seems rather good and competent as an advanced compact. btw Ortega, any comments on the VR?

so far so good, i will try to push the camera and see how slow it can go

one more for today, since i do not normally shoot XMMs, this is the only way for me to test max bokeh
the mirror is roughly the size of a human head, this was taken with max focal length and max aperture f5.6

Wow, the low light performance and macro photos are impressive. Hmm, can someone please PM me the price and shop location you guys bought this beauty from ? Thanks =)

Coming from LX3 and G11 user..
Totally impressed with P7000, finally after a long time since nikon coolpix 995..nikon can compete in pocket/prosumer class :)
For IQ ..Control..Build quality, P7000 much much better than my LX3 and G11..The best IQ from Prosumer [draw with IQ from my trusty Fuji S100fs]
one problem P7000 for me its sluggish menu system..but i hope it fixeable with future firmware update..

all sample with iso 800, you can check detailed EXIF from image:

I feel IQ from P7000 is different with my LX3 and G11...color totally awesome..and look "more have dimensional"
and sharpness look more natural/not harsh than my LX3..off course it just my opinion :D
but coming from my hobby in pocket and prosumer class..this is the best "pocketable" system i have till now..

This is too much! too good:bsmilie::thumbsup:
1/4s and I assume you didn't use your forehead to add support like dslr...

Built-in ND filter
an example of what the built in ND filter does, camera is set to manual exposure, one shot with ND filter off and one with ND filter ON (darker)

now that is a big difference

I came in here expecting to see D7000 test....

Ortega. notice that this Built-in ND filter seems very much like a ev-1 function.
Have you try shooting landscape with this function when the sky and buildings are maybe a few stops different? It will be great if they can come up with a built-in GND filter function.

One more thing, do you conduct all this test shots hand held?

once you hit the max at f8 and you still want to slow the shutter speed even more, you can evoke the built-in ND filter. not sure how this is implemented but yes that would be a good idea to have a built-in GND too

almost all shots were taken hand held

when used with an external flash
