Try manual focusing without the split screen at f1.4

i didnt see what the shutter speed was.:bsmilie:
yup.if at that kind of speed, a slight shake wouldnt affect that much.

That's why I'm quite surprised that the images turned out like that. They should have a bit more contrasty with the standard setting on D300. As for ISO, 500 is still ok because I've been shooting at ISO800 without problems. Darn.. Nikon has changed the way I shoot. I used to shoot only at the lowest ISO.. ;p

I am still sure that the 85mm f1.4 is still an excellent lens in terms of sharpness but bokeh and horrible bokeh lose out quite abit to the CZ and voigtlander lenses which i have seen.I have also had the chance to play with the Canon 50mm f1.2 and 85mm f1.2.Both of these lenses beat the 85mm f1.4 by a slight margin(esp. due to the CA and not-up-to-pro-standard bokeh).

Well.. You got to trade sharpness for bokeh.. CZ is the only one who got them in the right proportion. ;p

exactly! a bit OT but that's what I felt ;p

last time was always ISO 100, max ISO 320. Now, even up to ISO 1600 is still pretty good in well lit condition.

And last time, Auto ISO was a pain in the A hole, but now it's the best invention ever!

Get a katzeye or buy a cheaper 3rd party from OP. I think the OP one isn't too bad.

i used to be quite dependent on a focus screen but i took it out already. currently manual focussing w/o a focus screen cuz i'm probably used to MF already.

the 3rd party one from OP is quite usable for fast lenses, but on slow lenses, the exposure is very inaccurate.

Yeah.. It's the same with katzeye because of the darkening of the split image. This is because metering is performed on the image on the focusing screen, so the screen brightness is very important. It is also why I'm quite hesitant to get my screen changed as well.

actually, i still shoot at the lowest iso.
only when circumstances force me to use a higher iso then i'll switch.

Okie... anyway, I now find myself in more situation where I need to shoot at ISO800 and above than before.. ;p :dunno:
