Hi!
Long time no post...
I was set to go down SLS to buy this baby during lunch but have read those dpreview outcrys this morning. Man...some of the forum peeps went completely bonkers but I still bought it anyways since I waited THAT long for the 70-200 update since december 2007.
Love the weight and feel...now I just have to wait another hour to go home and connect to my cam to try out.

Good stuff!

How much did u buy cos I am also planning to get it. Just waiting to see any 'serious' bugs exist or not.

...But I am just surprise that although both lenses are of the same focal length, however the actual view of the focal length can be different :dunno:

That's to do with the IF (Internal Focus) design of the lenses. All IF lenses change focal length when focusing closer, some more than others. Apparently the VRII changes focal length more than the VRI at close focus distance - when set at 200mm focal length, the VRI measures at around 190mm at minimum focus distance, and measures 198mm at about 3m subject distance; the VRII measures at 128mm at mfd, 164mm at 3m and 186mm at 10m.

Shelomoh,

I paid around 3150 for the new '65-165mm' haha

VR2 is seriously sharp especially wide open compared to the VR1 in my limited experience.

Well then u won't get vignetting at 200mm like the VR1. hahaha. Then again, no 200mm for VR2.

Anyway 65-165mm is only if you are too close to subject. Focus at infinity think you can get 70-200mm. But it's the sharpness that I am going for.

And where on earth did you get those info from? :dunno:

;)
