Nikon 55-200 VR

i asked about it at the Nikon Showroom. The guy there said to watch the Singapore Nikon website. when the "useful information" button shows on page for the lens, that means that it's available locally. I think he himself has no idea when it's coming :bsmilie:

The 55-200mm VR lens is already listed under the Products section of the Singapore Nikon website. In fact they put the release date at 6/3/07!! But when I call the shops they do not have it. Some are completely blur about this model (Alan Photo Funan), some say it will come in in 1-2 weeks time (Lords). But no info about price either.

Good combination this 17-55 f/2.8 with 55-200VR ;p

actually would prefer the shorter brother, 70-200VR to the 55-200VR.

Sigh I just found out that it is a plastic mount lens. That does not sound good at all. Is that a major problem? Called Lords they said that it should be in any time now.

Me, I have no problem with plastic mounts.

for something below, 500 a gold mount would be good. :thumbsup: hehehe...

I have also read somewhere that the SWM engine on this lens is somewhat more compact and slower than usual swm engines..

I wonder if there is an increase in speed from the non vr version to this new one.

Man I am so tempted to get this lens just because of the price. Going to holland next week and I don't have any lens that goes further than 70mm.

On the other hand, I also want to get the 18-200 VR as an all-in-one travel lens. Travelling with kids I don't see myself having the luxury to change lenses.

mmm I heard from a colleauage that his bro already got this 55-200 VR few weeks ago from local sg shop in far east plaza at $320 or more, can't remember. He say parallel import.

I am wondering whether the one he got is with VR or without as no one here in clubsnap have got it yet.

Have decided to get the sigma 70 200 macro instead. sigh.. need to sell off my tamron 90mm to fund it.
