NIkon 35mm F/1.8 G

where got flaming?

anyway  to catchlights for all the links!

I just chip in my 2c worth, which is that I find the 35/1.8 to be very solidly built (not pro-standard but definitely not flimsy in any way) and sharp enough at wide open to meet my expectations. I bought the 50/1.8 initially (coz of the low price), but found it too restrictive on a DX camera.

35 does for DX what 50 does for FX... give you a 'normal' view.
I can't say that I've tested the limits of what this lens is capable of. Basically use it for low light, usually coupled with bounced flash.

i also kena poisoned already. although i jus got my 50mm about 2 wks ago. lol

going to buy this lens on sat...anynoe wanna buy together? maybe can try to bargain lower..

There is no need to bargain. Look at price guides, look for the lowest price, go to the store and buy. Lowest in SG already. Buy one piece is that price, buy 20 pieces is that same price.

Unless you want to be a cheapo like me, buy overseas. Then you can get it cheaper. ;)

I loved this lens on my D5000... Great, small, light-weight combo. Very good for general photography. Wide aperture a big bonus.

 couldn't agree more!

Bought it in Shanghai. For this particular lens, it is cheaper to buy in Shanghai than in HK. The lens is made in Nikon's China factory close to Shanghai. Less transportation= cheaper price.

Remember to check prices for each area before going there. There are price guides for both China and HK. Google for the links.

hahaha I didn't know I'm so influential... ;)

Although it'd be nice to spread the BBB virus around, do consider carefully if you think this focal length is suitable before taking the plunge. I know it's not terribly expensive, but it's still money.

You wanna go NSC to test 35/1.8?

Can... they have... ask nicely and you can even test D700 with 300mm f/2.8 :D
They have A LOT of lenses. I count at least 40 or 50.

Agreed. Tried both, I still prefer 35mm over 50mm.

WHADDD?? I thod AF-D 35mm f/2 is the normal view for FF? :bsmilie:
I've heard the term "normal field of view" being used a number of times when describing the 50mm lens on a 35mm film SLR.
Since I can't really substantiate it, I used parentheses :D

If I look at a scene and sort of gauge the limits of my "zone of sharpness", then raise the camera to my eye-level, I find the 35mm covers approximately that zone.

These should covered every aspects, and views from our members on the Nikon 35mm f/1.8G AF-S DX lens. from the day it introduced.

I think you will take awhile to finish reading them, hope this is enough for you, if you still need more views about this lens, you can try Google it.

Hope this help.

Bro, actually the optimal "standard" or "normal" view is more like 43mm for FX. On APS-C (Nikon) it is 29mm. So the best lens should be the 30mm lenses for DX(Sigma 30/1.4 comes to mind). And for FX, the Voigtlander 40mm Ultron comes to mind.

This is a good read:

I think... after reading that passage, that the term 'standard' or 'normal' in reference to lenses should be cast aside :)
