Nikon 1 J1/J2 User thread

As I said already, an EVF offers similar ergonomic benefits as an OVF compared to the panel on the back.

Well, if I just look over the camera with my eyes the colors are even more natural. The point is that the sensor sees the image differently than you do through the OVF. The purpose of the camera is to capture images and not to see colors that have nothing to do with the final image.

ok, got it. thanks. however, the noise you saw in the evf - will it also appear in the real picture? reason for asking - during night shot in orchard, the display flickers but the pictures are perfect.

Based on the web price with the standard kit lens should be S$1299.

Well i guess this thread should be renamed as a Nikon 1 thread.

agreed. as the thread creator i tried to find the menu to change the name, but i can't find it. not sure whether moderator is able to help ...... ?

for the price, it is what the nikon.com.sg shown. real price in the shop might be lower. anybody have the v2 already?

Usually the gain is higher through the EVF or live view than in the final image so the resulting image should look better. Still, I think the V2 will have more noise than the V1/J1/j2 but better test it yourself.

during the sitex show, i bought a $19.90 3rd party battery (en-el20) as a spare. it works well, but i found some differences:

Nikon 3rd party
7.2 V 7.4V
1020 mAh 5800 mAh
7.4 Wh no info

can anybody help to explain the info above? since there is a difference in the voltage (7.2 V vs 7.4 V), how will it affect the camera?
as for the capacity ( cmiiw ), the 3rd party looks better ( 1020 mAh vs. 5800 mAh) - but the reality, Nikon battery last longer.
lastly, what does it mean with 7.4 Wh in the nikon?

I don't get it. The original Nikon 1 V1 battery is $60, you get peace of mind coz it's safe for sure and as you said yourself it lasts even longer. The battery for the Nikon 1 J1/2 should be even cheaper.

i just want to know why the 3rd party drained faster than the nikon. that's why i need to understand the jargon and what the differences mean :)

oh, ok. btw, how about the flicker in the display? what is the cause?

Nobody can tell you without testing the battery with proper equipment. The battery drains faster because the labeling is wrong and the quality is bad most probably. The labeling on those cheap 3rd party batteries is usually pretty meaningless.

The noise you see in the EVF has nothing to do with the picture and will NOT appear in the final image.

The EVF offers great advantages in situations where the LCD is useless, like bright sun, or where you simply can't use the LCD because it disturbing the people around you. It is also easier to compose in my opinion with the EVF. The other advantage is that you get better stability, plus that you don't have to hold the camera at arms length away from your face.

Any idea when is the 6.7-13mm lens launching? i've just bought the 18.5mm lens. big diff from the 10-30mm lens

They didn't even announce it, it's just in development.

can you elaborate more on the big diff?

is this 18.5mm lens as good as the 50mm?

Dunno why it took me so long to try the 30-110mm that came with my J1, took a few shots at the Botanic Gardens this weekend, I might be using this baby a lot more!

I don't think so, there are plenty in the field already. Anyway, I have the feeling there will be a V3 quite soon after they released the J3 this month already.
