Everything on the Nikon 35 F2 is great except for Bokeh. It also shares the same housing as the 50mm so sometimes can mistakenly took the wrong lens also

To summarise = SHARP.

Sorry photo taken directly from my facebook so JPG quality not really good.

Just wondering, has anyone tested the Tokina AT-X M35 PRO DX 35mm F2.8 against the Sigma or the Nikkor? I find that having macro capability is quite attractive for a 35mm lens on DX, esp. as a everyday lens.

It does seem that the Tokina is not very popular (or even known to many to begin with).

i had a very brief encounter with it when a gentleman dropped by on campus to pick up a lens i was selling.. he had his tokina 35mm mounted.. which was bought for approx $700+ if i didnt remember wrongly.. the min focus is so close, that from the front element to that of the subject at the max magnification, is probably 1cm, needing an external flash to supply light, if not the subject will be in the shadows..

autofocus is snappy, but as for image quality wise, i do not have enough on hand experience to comment.

i don't have the sigma but in my case, i use my AFD 35/2 more often than my AFD 50/1.4

a. it's roughly 53mm on DX - which makes it a 'normal' lens
b. it's sharp at f2 (of course the 50 can also be sharp at f2)
c. the colours outperform the 50mm
d. it doesn't flare

but seriously, the only thing i see attractive in the sigma is the HSM. but make an expensive lens for people with inexpensive cameras (DX cams with no motors) - it's all wrong.

i have failed to replace the Sigma AF 30 f1.4 ever since i moved to FF.

i was using it on DX DSLRs and getting fantastic result with it. it truly is a class buy n the most stunning of it, it is made by Sigma. :sweatsm:

now i'm lookin to get nikkor AF 35 f2D for FF but everywhere is sold out... :sticktong

You want it back?;p

no la.. if it is FF lens, yes. :bsmilie:

Hehe, i not selling also la. Actually, you can get the D3X which still produce a 10mpx image on DX lenses ma. :bsmilie:

 wa... sounds very ... expensive.

so i would think that the Sigma AF 30 f1.4 is best for DX DSLRs.

the AF 35 f2D is best for FX DSLRs.

of cos views differ. hehhee

BBB.:bsmilie:

But seriously, i owned a 35mm f2D before (which i now regret selling) and now i am using this Sigma 30mm f1.4

I feel, the colours of Nikon Lenses is more contrasty in comparison.
But the bokeh of this f1.4 really no fight sia.

ya, f1.4 is fantastic. and it is sharp wide open.

......provided there's no front/back focus issues with the copy of the lens. ;p

Must test properly, both on charts + human beings (ie eyes). Usually it is user error, or the light levels are so low that it is crazy to expect it to work properly all the time esp if you are shooting under pressure.

I'm having some white balance issues when using the Sigma 30mm f1.4 with my D300. However, it produces excellent results when used with my D70. This lenses is almost stuck onto my D70 body all the time even though I've got the Nikon 50mm f1.4.

The Sigma 30mm f1.4 is truly one lenses for the DX body!

OT abit... some times the D70 never fails to surprise me with good IQ. just that the view finder and LCD screen are like stamp size.

Don't know about the Sigma 30/1.4, but I had the chance to use the Nikon 35/2. Agree with what others have said: it is a nice compact but high quality lens at a reasonable price. I was worried about soft corners wide open (Photozone reviews, etc) but my limited tests suggest that it is very usable from f2.8 onwards. Some CA and purple fringing can be seen in the corners but it goes off by about f2.8-f4. f2 is sharp but has a hazy, diffused kind of look, a bit dreamy. By f5.6, I find it is tack sharp corner to corner, with good contrast all round. Here's a recent sample at f2.8 :)

I'm sure if Nikon were to come out with a AFS 35/2, it would be (maybe slightly) superior but the price would also unlikely to be so affordable. From what I hear, the AFS 50mm 1.4 is almost double the price of the AFD. So, overall, I think the Nikon 35/2 is worth the money. Just my 2 cents.

Yes, it's a difficult lens to find. I managed to buy one from Sam at John 3:16. Be prepared to wait for the order to arrive.
