Ya, this lens can do pretty good close up. It has a magnification of 1:2~![]()
I think you meant 1:4 right?

1:2 magnification would make it a micro-nikkor (and a dream lens for me)

Hey, was wondering which of these lenses you guys would prefer? The sigma has an awesome 2 extra stops but supposedly it's a little soft wide open and has a common focusing issue and also APS-C sensors only. The Nikkor on the other hand, is said to be sharp wide open, and plus it's compatible with 35mm and full frame. Views?
Dont sigh so fast la, practice manual focusing...
Some great lenses like those from Carl Zeiss, gota manual focus even on a D3 what....![]()
Do not buy sigma 30mm ,terrible hot spots. Cannot be used for infrared red. Aperture from F5.6 very bad hot spots. Waste of money . Can get better lenses.

wa bro... you not only poison us with the 35mm lens, also posion us with the D300.....
Look on the bright side :light: ... it's just D300 not D700. :kok:
Despite all these, for mine I found that it struggled with distances greater than 1.5m, with some very obviously preferred sweet spot distances. This is always a regret I have for this potentially great lens. It is also because of all the issues coupled with its potential that has made it sort of a cult lens.
The only problem is that the sigma coating peels off. Mine is already 70% naked.
I saw a 30mm all peeled off... actually looks quite cool... the metallic look![]()
